Looking good Bob.

Where did you get all studs for water pump?

Standard factory 5.0 setup from an '89 Lincoln TC, Crown Vic.

I'll butt in here and say...........I just cut sticks of all-thread for mine.
Takes the 'head-scratching' outta finding the right length bolt for which-ever hole!!

Hmm... can't say that I recommend doing that Sal. What is the harness grade of all thread, 1 or 2? My belief is you want a hard enough metal bolt that won't break years later when you need to remove it and the threads are stuck pretty good. ARP makes a kit for this, but my memory says the kit is missing one bolt.

Re: Making headway...

Yeeeeah I thought about that after I put'em in!
Coated them with anti seize real good on install butt-eye nose that stuff don't last for eternity.
Since front cover removal is not a regular thang.......I opted for this. (butt-wee never know when sump'umz gonna break)
You know the old adage........."If you ain't living on the edge......UR tak'in up too much space!"
Gosh ..wouldn't that be a chore, drilling out wrung-off all-thread in the front of the block!! (BUTT......then again, it's only grade 1 or 2 steel soooo EZ drilling!

Re: Making headway...

Yeah I put ARP’s in mine as well, all gooped up with “not supposed to seeze”
I wouldn’t enjoy trying to drill them out, ARP don’t use recycled won ton soup can steel.

Re: Making headway...

I've got what I think is a leaking front timing cover leak, so I'll be doing this myself here shortly. I picked up an almost new front timing chain cover and a radiator with a better looking stock shape top tank yesterday. Just need to buy some all thread.

Re: Making headway...

Bob,
I’m curious as to what type of bracket arrangement you have for the AC compressor as I see it is in the passenger side of the motor. That is how I would like to mount one vs  the drivers side, I think it will make for a cleaner look with the hoses. Plus I have the GM PS pump on the drivers side.

I'm using a "Standard" 5.0 two belt front dress, Rick.  I came from the 89 Lincoln TC I bought as a donor for the engine/trans.  I think you'll likely find this setup on 88, 89, 90 Town Car, Crown Vic, and Merc Marquis...all the big Fords.  The "standard" is the low output 5.0 but makes a good core.  You'll likely rebuild it anyway so E7TE (HO) or better heads, an HO cam and flat pistons make it an HO.  If you plan to run EFI you'll get enough to make it run but may want to upgrade some stuff for the HO Mass Air system.
The factory front dress is a bit ugly but I made some pieces to move the AC compressor up and in so it is more in front of the right valve cover.  I also cleaned up the stock piece that braces the alternator.  It's a two-belt setup and is rock solid.  My AC mount is designed for a Sanden type compressor, if you want the templates and some pix for the mod PM me your email addy.

Re: Making headway...

Bob
I’ll pm you, my block was from an 89 Mustang 5.0, I have it stroked to a 331 and I hav AFR heads but I’m sticking with the carb, motor has been rock solid for 7 years other than a head gasket (water leak external).

I want to add AC this year and have been looking for a setups that will locate the compressor on the right.

By the way, nice car.

Re: Making headway...

A little update to make Chris (Cab4ward67) feel a little better.  As you probably know I fired it up and the new engine ran fine on 5 holes....duh.  Found that I had managed to pull a wire loos in the right side engine harness which murdered the injectors to 1,2, and 3.
Fixed that and started driving it a bit.  Noticed that the trans, while working very nicely, was not locking up... or appeared to not be.  Closer inspection showed that lockup worked fine in 3rd gear but in 4th it would lock and then unlock in about five seconds.  Then without warning, it stopped locking altogether.
So I spent some time re-sealing the valve covers in hopes of stopping a little oil leak then, this morning checked out the lockup circuit and couldn't find anything out of sorts.  For some reason I pulled the EEC computer and cleaned the contacts for the J3 port where the Moates QH plugs in.  Now it locks in 3rd again but still not 4th.
Posted a snivel on the EECDynotuning forum...hope to get some help tonight or tomorrow.

This car is going to the Bash and if I have to put the AOD back in to make that happen...well, so be it.

You ain't alone, Chris.  This fun stuff happens to all of us.  Guess we could collect stamps instead.

Re: Making headway...

Thanks Bob, This was going to be a fun trip but after all I went through I am drained. I want more than a few miles on this before I can trust it to go to the store and back on its own. There is likely going to be another Bash that we can do..

Slammed Big Blue, ran over the varmints that messed with the Stang. Now all is good in the NW

Out of ten bashes since we started going we've made nine...the heap has made four plus the one here which really doesn't count.
So don't worry about getting your car there.  Just jump in the Kia and get there.  Heck, MS even drove the Kia in '11.  I was an 07 Mustang Vert but not a classic so...."Kia".
See ya there.

Re: Making headway...

Looks Awesome Bob!   Did you make the exhaust pipes from the shorty headers down the flange?

No headers, Steve.  I have HIPO mannys and those are 2.25 head-pipes that were part of an H-pipe I bought back in 06.  Then I fabbed the intermediate pipes back to the new Quiet Flow mufflers...like them...and in a day or so I'll have someone who know what they are doing make up the tail pipes.
