Hey Guys,
Did the MS Brake conversion on my 69 Mustang this last winter. I also replaced my 3rd member and axles. So on my drivers side rear rotor I noticed some grooves on the outside rotor. It looks like the caliper bracket is rubbing on the outside of the Rotor. I double checked the instructions and it looks like the washer spacer in the correct place. The bracket isn't centered on the rotor. I must be missing something. The passenger side seems fine. For some reason I cant post any pics of the issue. But any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Steve69

Be sure the axle bearing is fully seated on the axle, and the bearing/axle assembly is fully seated into the axle housing tube.
Which brakes do you have? About the only thing that can go wrong is to not press the bearing into the axle completely against the shoulder, or you could have wrong caliper or Ford mount.
In your pics, be sure to show a clear shot of the groove in the Ford bracket where the rotor fits through it.
Sorry for forum’s inop picture hosting. It sure is causing difficult communication.

It’s the 2015 calipers and brackets. I made sure the bearings were seated. The brake bearings bracket is flush and tight against the axle housing. I pulled the passenger wheel off and there’s slightly more than a 16th of a inch on that side with no rub. I’m pretty sure I have the correct calipers and brackets. I bought pull off new calipers, rotors and brackets as a set. I filed the bracket where the rotor is touching on the side on the caliper bracket and Seemed to give me enough clearance. The height seems fine and plenty of clearance on top of the rotor.

I installed ‘16 brakes on my original 8” housing and axles. I had interference issues with inside of calipers against backside of rotors. I eliminated the thick spacers between the calipers and the intermediate bracket. When i did this, it placed the calipers almost centered over rotors.
I used Raybestos rotors FYI. There may be some differences between brands.
You may need to add washer to caliper bracket side mount to move caliper out. I would leave the axle spacers as is.
I will check how I finally mounted them tomorrow and get back.

My 2015 discs use a 1/8” spacer between the two brackets and my axle housing is built with 2-3/8” brake gap. They fit exactly as designed.
If your rear end has 2-1/2” brake gap, no spacer is needed.

You lost me with the Brake Gap...LOL
It looks like If did pull out those 1/8 spacers off the caliper brackets would be centered on the Rotor.
I have a ford 9" housing in a 69 Mustang. Is that in the instructions or something I missed? I thought it said use
spacers on 2015 and above and that's what I did.
Thanks Steve69

Now when you say back side is that the rotor facing outside wheel? Thats where my caliper bracket was rubbing on the rotor. I have a new 3rd member so it was really hard to turn the rear wheels because of that. So I didn't notice the one rotor rubbing on the bracket.

I just looked both sides.
I don’t have spacers between axle bracket and caliper bracket.
AND
I don’t have spacers between caliper bracket and caliper.
In my kit, I had 1/2” thick washers...(x8 as I recall...punched out stainless).
They weren’t AN washers so there was some differences in height.
My calipers were from Flea Bay.
So perhaps maybe something off with them.
I mounted both in same manner so in future I wouldn’t mix something up.

Just reviewed my instructions for 2015 GT rear brakes.
Bullet 3 top it mentions 1/2” thick washers for lateral placement
Step 8... place spacers between brackets
Exploded diagram shows washer between both plates.
Don’t know what version of instructions I have.
To me it’s all part of the fun in modernizing my car.

Ford used two different brake gaps through the years, but Mustangs were 2-1/2”. Some rears had 2-3/8” gap. Just use the 1/8” thick washer spacers if you need them to center the OEM caliper bracket. If not needed, don’t use them.
The 1/8” thick washer spacers, if needed, go between Bracket A and Bracket B, on the 1/2” diameter bolts.

Thanks Guys for the information! Helps a lot!
