Got home safely from the bash

Drove most of the way in intermittent rain. New wiper system sure came in handy.
657 miles round trip.

BearingBob got long distance award in his 69 sportsroof. I think his was 1,757 one way!!!   If you weren’t there, you missed an opportunity to check out all his custom fabrication and suspension work while his car was getting an alignment check on Ed’s four post lift.

Re: Got home safely from the bash

And I had to settle for local show at a Ford dealer Saturday. A near by friend talked me into going so he could show off his 70 Boss 302 after 4 yrs of his very personal hard work. It was a bucket of rust where he needed a tetanus booster too start. A lot of cars winners in the club membership that were just so so,  and a top dealer best of show award for new fresh out the door GT they sold a few weeks ago.
It's just the way it is. Drive it and enjoy it. That's the best award......

13 hours is how long it took to get home. The worst drivers are in Colorado

Re: Got home safely from the bash

We made in home in 50 minutes. Driving in rain on a slick highway dodging cars that were rubber necking a rear end collision. The wipers worked perfectly, the brakes were a little grabby for some reason. Great bash ya'll! Looking forward to the next already. Thanks again Ed and Anna.

Re: Got home safely from the bash

Made it home this evening about 8:15 pm with great driving weather today.

Only had a couple of problems on road trip.

1) slightly loose upper control arms....no shims lost to my knowledge
2) flat tire in downtown San Antonio (big screw)
3) rim cosmetically damaged during flat repair
4) avoided semi tire catastrophic failure...across all lanes of traffic...quick egress to access road exit...I really like my brakes
5) got to take all 4 cloverleaf exits due to miscommunication...just to go straight in Wisconsin ..we laughed about it too.  Better than going straight and drive 10 miles to turn around.  Texas highways are the best with access roads.

According to factory odometer 4017 miles...I believe is slightly less.

We had a wonderful time.

Re: Got home safely from the bash

Glad you were able to avoid all the idiots.  GPS is great but will sure lead you down the garden path if you miss an instruction. We missed Hwy 380 in Denton and after motoring along for an hour, realized we were going to Oklahoma City...Naw, That added about 30 minutes to our trip...but not too many idiots.
Great to see you and meet Diane.  I hope she had a good time with the ladies.
I also want to compliment you on your car.  You've done some very nice work there, Dan, as that trip proved.

Re: Got home safely from the bash

Dianne had a wonderful time with the ladies and drooling over the cars....my words.

Forgot to mention the overheating problem in Austin.

The RTV and vacuum cap on foxbody heater hard line on intake let go while idling in parking lot.
Dianne really enjoyed the heater in Texas heat...Not...but she understood why.
What a trooper she is.

Simple temporary fix was 1/4” heater hose and 1/4-20 bolt with hose clamps.
Good enough to keep us moving along until we get home.
Of course, flat tire was next problem...as I told Dianne...at least it didn’t overheat😁

Thanks for compliments and really enjoyed the visit and meals too.

Re: Got home safely from the bash

Loss of AC will cause screechy noises from the right side of the car...been there.  Lost AC due to switch failure 1/2 hour out of Amarillo on the way to the Wimberly Bash.

Re: Got home safely from the bash

A/C worked well, even better after blocking off old accelerator pedal hole in firewall with some aluminum foil.

I had a block off plate already made too.

The water pump gasket seep, power steering leak, A/C install, oil change, top off transmission had priority before leaving.
