    Kinda Slow Here, Bash Coma?

    My 393w stoker has been burning earl for a while. Fingered it was cuz after I broke it in, it sat for a year till the next start up. Had tons of blow by for a bit.

    The number 2 and 7 cylinder plugs are badly fouled. The other plugs look real good.

    On the way to the bash it went thru 3 quarts. The way home only 1-1/2. Originally fingered it was the rings, but since I get smoke on start up and hard acceleration, it is probably from bad seals. Or with my luck it'll need seals and rings.

    I'm about to remove the keepers and springs to get to the seals on cylinder #7, but took the rest of the night off to rest me back.

    Guess I’m lucky with a measly 200hp and stock internals, I only burned 3/4 quart round trip.

    I’ll have to fix that with a bigger engine and cam and heads and....😁

    I think it’s Memorial Day coma.🤪

    A bad intake gasket can cause a vacuum leak and a place to suck oil into the motor. Be looking for evidence of that as you take stuff apart. It may not be the issue, but we know how hard of a time you’ve had getting an oil pan gasket to not leak😵‍💫😵‍💫

    On my bash trip from Tx to Michigan and back, my 427 used eight quarts of oil. When I got home, I reworked the baffle in the valve cover so the PCV valve could not suck oil mist out of the valve cover. The oil consumption problem went away.

    Thank God for simple fixes!!!

    Look on the bright side. You can pull the engine and leave the tranny in place!

    Great reminder Steve. I checked the PCV system after you first posted about it.

    Oil consumption goes down noticeably with a tight drain plug. 😂

    Rudi Rudi Rudi, you're pretty close on that comment. But I don't remember you at the Bash checking out all the oil on the undercarriage of my 69

    I had to do the same on my Cobra valve covers, as the PVC system was sucking oil, not oil fumes.  I had removed the baffles as the roller rockers were hitting them, I reworked the baffles, making them shorter and that resolved that issue.

    65 Fastback, 351W, 5-speed, 4 wheel discs, 9" rear,  R&C Front End.

    Pulled the seals on cylinder #7. The skirt that fits over the valve guide was somewhat pliable, but the top that the valve stem hits thru was harder than Chinese arithmetic. I think I know where I'll start.
