3 Point Seat Belt Installation

Looking for help before I start drilling holes in floor pan for SEAT BELTS SOLUTION 3 Point Belt Conversion on 66 Mustang. Went to web site for instructions ( www.seatbeltsolutions.com)  Instructions are generic. I have drilled and installed mounting Upper Bracket on Quarter Interior Trim Panel using existing hole for Stud mount. My question is where is best location for hole in floor for Take up Ratchet? There is a drain plug in same area as well as torque box. Any Pictures of underside of floor where others have successful drilled would be of great help

Re: 3 Point Seat Belt Installation

My 3-point belt connects thru the existing seat belt holes in the floor pan.  Don't you have seat belts?  I thought all '66's had belts.

Re: 3 Point Seat Belt Installation

My retractors are mounted in the corner formed by the rear seat pan and the rocker.  I made some 90* brackets that bolt to the floor about an inch inside of the rocker pinch weld on the bottom of the rocker.  The retractor is bolted to the vertical leg of the angle bracket.
The belt loops through a pivot at the top of the "B" pillar and attaches at the stock seat belt bung in the rocker...next to the seat.  The latch strap attaches to the stock bung in the tunnel.
If the belt kit you bought has the old style "lift to release" latches on a limp section of belt, I can pretty well guarantee you will hate them, don't ax how I know.
I changed to  a set with a rigid "cable type" latch section bolted to the tunnel with stab-in latches and a modern push-button release on the top edge of the latch.  Works just like a modern car and the latch is always in the same place...not down under the seat or hiding some place else.
If I could post a pic I would.

Re: 3 Point Seat Belt Installation

Well, this might work.  Pix are crappy but maybe they will give you the idea.  Also, the brackets I made are not 90 degree.  Just enough angle to hold the retractor vertical and bolt through the rolled area of the floor pan.

Re: 3 Point Seat Belt Installation

Here are some pictures of my install this spring.
Seatbelts are from Wesco with a long “c” end link.
I placed my anchor point slightly in front of the torque box.
I used a Unistrut square washer as a temporary shim to almost level my 1/4” anchor plate.
I wanted the thick washer to be captured, therefore I didn’t just notch it.
Eventually I will make a thicker shim to make it truly level, and all will be welded.
My 1/4” anchor plate is tapped for bolt too…didn’t care for the large fender washer in hardware kit.

Welding will be done after subframe connectors get installed first in near future.
Just don’t want to hack it up floorboards more than needed.

Red circle on upper anchor bracket is where coat hook is located for reference.

Hope this helps.

No complaints from passenger side. 😁

Re: 3 Point Seat Belt Installation

Definitely have to give credit to Bolted to the Floor, Bearing Bob, and Bullet Bob.

They shared information that made my install easier.
Thanks again guys.
