Have you read Daze’s write up?

Re: Coil Over Front Suspension

Here’s information for lower control arm inner pivot bushing.
This is used for 65 Falcons too.

Re: Coil Over Front Suspension

Good write up, but lacking first hand testimony from the Ford engineers who were working on the suspension design at the time we can agree to disagree.  Daze is a smart guy, and someone I respect highly, but I think we have just reached different conclusions based on our own respective conjecture.  The ball joint wear was a noted issue on the Shelby's and the race cars were even worse because they dropped the UCAs more than the 1" they did on the street cars.  I remember reading how Shelby used to machine a relief into the ball joints for the race cars to make sure they would last a whole race due to the bind issue.  I'll add that the drop doesn't stop the car from understeering either, it just reduces its tendency to udnersteer.

I'll also throw out that the idea that making that change would have cost Ford nothing may not be true.  This is a company that sent these cars out without grease zerks for the UCA pivots.  The UCA holes were drilled or stamped on the line.  Changing that tooling wasn't free, especially since it was probably just carryover from the Falcon.  How many times have we seen pennies pinched were the alternative was better performance?

Re: Coil Over Front Suspension

I made a set of tapered shims for the ball joint to seat on the control arm to fix the angle. No problem!

1969 Mach 1
I am running the Global West set up have had it for 5 years and have been happy with it. Global offers the kit with and without the dropped control arm. With Global,s set up the shock mounts to the lower control arm which greatly increases the suspension travel. The adjustable ride height is great. I run a reverse eye leaf on the rear with QA1 adjustable shocks all around. Do your research there are a lot of kits out there there may be some new ones since I did mine..

Re: Coil Over Front Suspension

Have ya ever looked for something and found something you had forgotten about or couldn’t find?

That happened today to me.

I had forgotten about these pieces that came with my coil over kit.
These parts allow you to make them a true coil over setup.
This allows you to remove the “T” bar and mount like a regular shock.
