I have a 68 V8 that i would like to clean up the engine bay.
Anyone have pros or cons to moving the battery to the trunk or tips to help or avoid issues??

I did my 66 coupe!
Do you have a coupe or fastback? Coupes make a cleaner looking swap IMHO.
I ran my cable from the trunk along the driveshaft tunnel to the starter.
I also ran a designated wire to my MSD box which resides in the old battery well area.
When I had a solenoid I mounted it in the trunk near the battery box.
I have a circuit breaker attached to the battery box to act as a fuse and also a cut-off to use a a theft protection(for all the good it does!)
I grounded the battery to the rear frame area. (CLEAN it good no paint etc......you know the drill.)
I ran a ground strap (flat weave type) from body to the engine.(CLEAN " " " " ")
You can never have too many grounds.
Pretty happy with the set-up.......Been this way for 10+ years.

If you ever plan to run the car at the track you need an external master electrical kill switch.

I moved my battery to the rear when I did a complete AAW retire. The engine bay is a bit cleaner now.
My Optima battery does not need an enclosed container like a vented one does. I still opted for a solenoid at the back even though I have a PMGR starter.
I recommend welding cables for the starter and alternator, mine are 1/0 and 4 gauge respectively, all of the cables run inside the car.
On a 68 the original battery mount is easily modified to work in the trunk.
I have a 170 amp mega fuse by the battery as well.
The stock tray with exterior drop down reinforcement.

I moved the battery (Optima) to the trunk this past year and also installed a new fuse panel. I moved the starter solenoid closer to the starter in the engine compartment, and ran 2AWG cable for the battery positive fed to the solenoid and 1AWG cable for the negative fed directly to a starter mounting bolt, and the frame.

The only negative I found (other than on the battery post) is that the battery in the trunk eats up pretty valuable space.

Doubly so for a fastback too. Why I've yet to move mine in fact. Currently I've got two amps and a box with a 10" sub in the trunk, plus the boxes built into the backside of my trap door/rear speak panel.

How about an Antigravity lithium ion battery. 7.75 x 6.25”x 7.25” and 16 pounds. $$$$$

Here's the setup I used in order to keep the long battery cable from being hot all the time. 8 gage wire is hot.

I am using an H5 size battery in the 65.
I modified existing battery clamp to work.
When I get a chance, I will make it look better.
Also noticed at Tractor Supply the other day an H7 battery with clamping lips on all four sides.
I didn’t measure it, but it looks like an option.
Most group 24 batteries, don’t have the base lip anymore.
