It don't look like part of any clutch I've ever seen. Do you have a part number for your throw out bearing so we can see a picture of it?

Looks like your throw out bearing went on a weight loss program...
Pull the Trans to be sure and replace. If mine did that, I'd never feel comfortable driving it that way...

Looks to me like a 'cast' piece. As such, I wouldn't believe it was from the clutch, pressure plate, flywheel or throw-out bearing. Maybe from the starter housing, or the transmission input shaft bearing retainer? Is it aluminum, or iron?

Looks like a formed steel part, like half of the throwout bearing release lever arm, where it goes around the bearing.
Seems like if that had broken off, though, it would cease to operate.

It's just a flesh wound.

MS - good point.
Alessandro - there are fairly inexpensive borescopes available for smart phones. You could look around inside the bellhousing to try to locate where it came from with one.

I could see how a previous mechanic went in to replace a broken release arm, since it can be replaced by sliding it into the window on the side of the bell and clipping onto an existing throwout bearing. The busted piece must have remained in the bell, unseen or irretrievable by the mechanic.

Hopefully Alessandro will provide an autopsy report soon and solve the mystery...
