Anybody ran across some good deals on Power Disc Brake conversions

I was gonna try and salvage the disc brakes off my wrecked 66 but one side was too damaged.

My 65 is non power drum car...I wanna put power disc on it I am running 16 inch wheels.

Re: Anybody ran across some good deals on Power Disc Brake conversions

Did your wrecked car have power brakes? If yes, is the booster and mc salvageable?

Re: Anybody ran across some good deals on Power Disc Brake conversions

KISS. Unless you have a physical condition that requires power assist, why add something else to the mix that can go bad? Now keep in mind I rarely follow the KISS principle.

Re: Anybody ran across some good deals on Power Disc Brake conversions

Gotta agree with BB, if you are young and able go for manual 4 wheel disk . . . . all the stopping power you will ever need.
Probably drums in the rear will be ok as well.

https://mustangsteve.com/product/master-kit-65-66-ck165-m/

This is what I installed on my 65.

Originally installed with 289/ c4/ 78 Granada spindles/ 65 rear drums/ Granada proportioning valve…Granada conversion done early 90’s.

14” wheels too.

Basically removed factory brake system and installed this kit.
It worked great with Granada calipers for me.

Currently using same components with 2016 GT brakes front/rear.
18” wheels required.

DO YOU WANT A GOOD DEAL OR A GOOD PRODUCT?

(It's a rhetorical question)

Re: Anybody ran across some good deals on Power Disc Brake conversions

I’d buy everything on MS site.  I’d do the power brake booster for sure!  You can source the calipers and Rotors used on Ebay or check out rock auto.

Re: Anybody ran across some good deals on Power Disc Brake conversions

KISS principle. Use stock K/H components. Why? Stock replacement parts carried at all parts stores.
The K/H brakes will work well with your wheels.

As previously mentioned, check out chockostang's disk brake, non-power conversion.

Re: Anybody ran across some good deals on Power Disc Brake conversions

Now that you're use to the manual drum brakes.......NON power front discs will be GREAT!
That's my theory............

Re: Anybody ran across some good deals on Power Disc Brake conversions

Just curious, what brake kit did you have on the wrecked '66?  Was it the K/H calipers?

1968 T-code Coupe with a 302.  Nice car, no show stopper for sure, but I like it.

Re: Anybody ran across some good deals on Power Disc Brake conversions

CSRP makes the reproduction Kelsey Hayes brakes that every vendor sells. Buy direct like I told you when you asked the question. Michael can get them for you as well, so that you are supporting MustangSteve who has been supporting you right here since 1999.

I am gonna order the parts to add the 2005 type disc brakes to my exsisting 65 spindles...May go a head and put the rear disc too.  from the MustangSteve site.

Re: Anybody ran across some good deals on Power Disc Brake conversions

The 2005-2009 Mustang v6 11.2” brakes will fit his 16” wheels. Obviously, since those cars came with 16” wheels, in fact the exact same wheels he is using, they will fit. And the use of the 1.25” wheel spacers gives the brakes even more room. .

I have 12.2's on my 16"' steelies, so the 11.2's should fit virtually anything.  My bs in 4.25.

Re: Anybody ran across some good deals on Power Disc Brake conversions

I have not tested fit, but maybe the 12.5” GT brakes might fit since the spacer is in there.  Thanks for mentioning it, lowercasesteve.   Are you using the 2001-14 brakes?

Mine came from Wilwood, whatever they mimic.  I only have about 1/16" clearance between the caliper and the inside of the wheel rim.
