Cannister fuel filter replacement

I have the fuel pump with cannister fuel filter.
I want to swap out the fuel filter, but man is that cannister tough to unscrew by hand.
Any ideas on why this is so and would a small strap wrench be ok to remove?

Re: Cannister fuel filter replacement

To keep the strap wrench handle from possibly crushing the can, I would suggest putting some sandpaper around the can then the strap wrench for a better grip.

Suggest starting with a little WD-40, or similar, on the threads, and giving it some time to soak.  Then keep the strap wrench around where the thread are located to avoid crushing the housing.

Re: Cannister fuel filter replacement

That cannister it TIGHT! I consider myself stronger than average too.
I need to buy a new small strap wrench, and have another go, but is there a chance these cannisters are not meant to be removed?

Re: Cannister fuel filter replacement

Is the fuel pump on the engine?  If not you may have to remove it and try to get it off by holding it in a vice.

To my knowledge this cannisters are removable. One check you could try is to look up the fuel pump & filter availability on RockAtuo, or any other parts site.  If they sell a filter for this pump, then the cannister is definitely removeable.

Re: Cannister fuel filter replacement

I looked at the NPD catalog and the bowl and filter are available separately, you may have to destroy your original removing it and just buy a new one.🥵
