Re: I put together a little video on my DIY Lightning Intake build

Looks like great work!    Not to diss this in any way shape or form just thinking outloud...   Which is the better manifold?   Could someone make a set of adapters to use a 302 manifold on a 351?   I wondered that years ago.   Seems you could make it even closer if needed with a little port blending.

I cleaned up and blended a tuned port efi many years ago with a dremel shaft.   Mainly casting marks I could reach and such.   When I put it back together, I swear it made a difference.   But that could have been youthful vigor, who knows?   I did add one of those Jet chips at the same time so I couldn't be sure.  Both really woke that 305 up.   That is the limit of my experience with this type of work.   Well that and putting larger throttle bodies and fuel injectors off junk yard cars on four cylinders of the third American brand.

If multiple things can go wrong, the one that will go wrong will be the one that causes the most damage.

There is a company that sells them for about $400 shipped

Nice old school, if you don't have a part make it!

If this forum can't fix it, it isn't broke.

Nice work Day, I like the way you think. Reminds me of an old Johnny Cash song..."and we bolted it up with an A-dapt-a kit".

I LIKE IT Daze!!!
My bench race question........What would happen if......you took the lower truck mani and opened it all the way up and made it an open plenum style ? (Like a tunnel ram intake.) Would the low end/lower RPM power go away while increasing the top end power?!

As you said ā€œbench racingā€, so it is hard to know without putting the engine on a Dyno but I think you are correct, Ā low end torque would be exchanged for high end power. Ā I love the show "Engine Masters" on motortrend and watching their episodes has taught me a lot about bench racing outcomes. Ā Using what I have learned I think If I were to do something like that, rather then opening up the lower intake I would be far better served by opening up the adapter in to two 4-bank chambers. Ā That would minimize the loss in torque and still allow it to perform better at higher RPMs. Ā Also by modifying the adapter rather then the intake, if I didn't like the outcome I would only be out the cost of the aluminum and could go back to the way it is now. Ā Either way I don't care about HP or any numbers above 5500 RPM. Ā The displacement/cam/heads combination of this motor was built with low end torque in mind. Ā The old Gal is "big woman" and I need all the low end grunt I can get to move it down the road. Ā I put in all my specs (based on a carb and duel plane manifold not EFI) into my digital dyno and this is how I am expecting the motor to perform. Ā The numbers this program spits out are alway a bit high but the shape of the curves tends to be close.

Ā
