anyone using or know someone using this kit or thoughts?

Good stuff. I started out with basically that same setup when I first built my car with a 302 back in 1993. Nowadays, though, I would definitely be switching to a roller cam of some type.

While I didn't buy these componets as a kit, I had the following, and was pleased with it. A few years ago I switched to a roller cam.
Edelbrock:
Heads #60329, "Perfromer"
Manifold #7181 "Perfromer RPM"
Cam #7182 Hydraulic flat tapppet
Carburetor Holley 600CFM
If you're interested, I have the 7182 cam and lifters, send me a PM.

The reason I like this kit is everything should work together .
Can you put in a roller cam in a non roller block?
Not to sound dumb!

Yes, there are retrofit kits with linked lifters to do that, or, with reduced base circle cams. Probably more expensive than just getting a roller block snd using stock components.

I used the 2121 intake, 2122 camshaft, and 1406 (600 cfm electric choke carb) on my 289 w/C9 351w heads.
I liked it for a daily driver/summer cruiser street car.

I think the camshaft is all worng (of course!) butt.....
IF a small boost in power is what UR after ...go for it!
The 112* LSA on the cam + 10:1 CR with the heads
may be a headache as far as spark knock at low speeds go...
ESPECIALLY ..if you have an A/T.
I agree with MS..look for a roller block and build it.
(lotsa guys are crying about flat lobes/camshaft failure. It seems to be the
Chy-naa low grade/cheap made lifters that cause the problem.
USA made lifter are a thing of the past....maybe "assembled" in US butt-most of the gutz are Chy-naa/Weiger-slave made.)

Seems like there’s plenty of issues with the roller lifters recently Sal.

I like the look of these kits. Are they available for a 289 and what sort of horsepower are we talking?

Link bar lifters have really gotten out of hand recently. All the ones I've seen are near $500/set. You can buy a whole running 5.0 engine for that. IMO, if starting a build from scratch and you want a roller just start with a 5.0. The only reason to spend the coin on link bar lifters is if you are converting an engine that was never offered with a roller cam from the factory.
A kit that works on a 303 should work on a 289 as well. I would say they are targeted to around 300-350HP typically. Just keep in mind that power is made with stuff the kit doesn't include (headers, exhaust, a sound shortblock, etc.).
REMEMBER!!! When posting a question about your Mustang or other Ford on this forum, BE SURE to tell us what it is, what year, engine, etc so we have enough information to go on. |
