Running fuel lines to 5.0 EFI motor in a 66 coupe where did you route?

Hi, In the final phase of the 5.0 conversion in my 66 coupe. I am running nylon flow and return lines but not sure if to run them where the original was for the 289 but seems the only (somewhat) protected option. Also interested where anyone ran the battery cable now that the battery is in the trunk and did you run both pos and neg to the front?
Any advice greatly appreciated.

Good morning Graham.  Hope all i s well over in "Jolly 'Old". 
I'm not a big fan of soft fuel lines under the car.  I used the poly coated, easily bendable, 5/16" line to make a mirror image of the original for the right side of the car.  MY fuel rails allowed the source line on the right and I used the original for the return line.  I adapted to nylon for vibration allowance at the ends and covered the nylon sections with split neoprene hose for a little added protection.
I believe you should run both cables forward.  The ground cable can stop at the transmission if you desire but you really need a good positive ground at the engine/trans unit.  Most electrical problems I have encountered are due to poor grounding.  You can bring the cables into the cabin and run them through the rocker trough to get them forward. That keeps them a bit safer.

On my daughter’s 65 coupe, I ran a new 5/16” steel line on the passenger side of the car. I used the original 5/16” steel line as the return to the tank. I used a short piece of fuel injection flexible rubber hose to connect the new steel line to the original 5.0 foxbody fuel inlet hard lines.

I still haven’t figured out why anybody would want their battery in the trunk but, if you are going to do it, Bullet gives good advice on anything electrical.

Be sure you have the fuel pump inertia switch installed and functional on any EFI conversion.

When I relocated the battery to the trunk, I ran both positive and negative cables to the front.  I also moved the starter solenoid closer to the starter.  The positive cable is 1AWG.  The negative cable is 2AWG, and is grounded to the frame by the starter, and a 4AWG cable from this point is connected to a starter mounting bolt.  The negative cable is also grounded in the trunk with a #8AWG wire.  I also retained the ground cable between the cylinder head and the firewall. 


65 Fastback, 351W, 5-speed, 4 wheel discs, 9" rear,  R&C Front End.

I used 5/16” nylon for both supply and return (stock 5.0L).
I am also using stock foxbody fuel rails joining nylon in front of block in stock location to factory spring lock connectors.
All parts were sourced from Rock Auto.
Not all adapters are available or correct on Rock Auto according to product description.
I have a short piece of High pressure fuel injection rubber hose out of tank.
I am using Spectra 22 gallon FI tank for 70 Mustang.
I considered Tanks, but didn’t want fuel connections inside trunk.
Just make sure to put sealer on threads of your hardware for vapors and liquid.

AGS and S.U.R.&R. are the only nylon supply companies that were available when I performed my EFI conversion.

Again I used 5/16” for all nylon.
Used 3/8” FI rubber out of tank.
The quick disconnects work very nice too.

AGS FLNR525 = 5/16” Nylon (25’)..:.SUR&R has longer lengths available.
Hindsight should have just ordered a 50’ length.

AGS FLRQ040 = 5/16” steel to 5/16” Nylon straight fitting

S.U.R.&R. K310 = big spring lock

S.U.R.&R. K320 = small spring lock

AGS FLRL150 = 5/16” quick connect to nylon

I grounded the battery to the "frame" in the rear portion of the trunk. I ran the positive to the starter inside the transmission hump/tunnel area. Connected to the solenoid  'on the starter'(new-er mini starter). (Did away with the FoMoCo original.
