Installing a 2121 Edelbrock intake manifold on my 19 8302 have a question about the Edelbrock gaskets on the water port on the heads the original gaskets are just rectangular the new Edelbrock gaskets have a little dog leg with an oval hole in the center partially blocking the water port is this correct or do I have the wrong gasket

Hi,
Put gasket on the intake and look if there is the same and cut of the "L" shaped portion of the gasket.

The dogleg portion is for the 69-70 351w cylinder heads and 16 bolt intake manifold.
The 71-97 heads used only 12 bolts and same with intake manifold.
Should be able to trim the gasket. Leave the outside perimeter bead where they match up.
I used same 2121 intake manifold on my 289 with C9 351w heads.
What cylinder heads are you using?

Like NOS281 said, those are 351w gaskets, and will work, but cut off the extra part that would cover the port. You don’t want anything in the port that might get soggy and come loose or block the flow.

The HOW TO INSTALL AN INTAKE article still exists on the www.MustangSteve.com web site under TECH HELP section. The different gasket types are discussed, as well as how to install so nothing leaks.

I remember having difficulty finding correct gaskets for my stock 289 when I installed the Edelbrock intake. I eventually sourced a set of MAHLE MS15172 from Rock Auto and they were perfect. In fact they looked exactly like the gaskets I took off it.
REMEMBER!!! When posting a question about your Mustang or other Ford on this forum, BE SURE to tell us what it is, what year, engine, etc so we have enough information to go on. |
