Has anyone bought a new bumper and not have any trouble getting everything to match up? I did a test mounting of my new bumper and things look a little rough. Guess I'm going to have some massaging to do to get everything to bolt up. Just once I wish I could get something that would match up perfectly.

Re-chrome the original! Re-chrome the original!

It has been 7 years or so, but I bought a set from NPD and they fit just fine and the finish is pretty darn good as well. I believe they were actually made in Japan and the name was Nordan. I'm not sure if chrome replating is an option for you or not. When restoring the brother's '66 vert, we had all the original pieces rechromed and it cost a mint. Even back in 1990, it was very expensive in CA to get things chromed due to the environmental regs.
[edit] don't know if NPD still sells that brand, but this place says they do.

I bought one after the wreck for $99 and it is alot better looking than any original. The edges are smoother and the chrome is good. It fit perfectly. Originals are stiffer but have rougher edges.
I am OK with mine. What I am not OK with is mastercrap stole my original rear bumper. The originals have the curve in them. The aftermarket ones do not.
I found an NOS Ford rear bumper at a swap meet last year for $250. I did not buy it because the quality was so bad. But if did have the curve in it.
Clarification on the first statement above... An ORIGINAL bumper may be better than the NOS FORD bumpers I have seen. The NOS ones are typically very rough on the edges and not cleaned up at all. It has been so long since I have seen an ORIGINAL bumper that I realized my statement may have been flawed. Maybe the Ford originals that came on a car were better than the NOS offerings. at least I hope so.

Re-chroming was not an option, as the car had sideswiped something back in an earlier time. RH fender and door had some damage in them from PO. Can't remember if I tossed the bumper for being bent or if it was rust, too long ago. The brackets looked straight but now I'm thinking that maybe they're a little cockeyed from the accident. The bumper looks good with nice chrome. I'll get it on there even if I have to make my own brackets .
I will say that the rear bumper went on pretty easily.

One of my big regrets was selling my o/e bumpers and buying a pair of Nordan offerings. Should have rechromed the ones that came with the car for 1500 bucks.
The cost of quality is soon forgotten but the crappy cheapo is always there in your face.

NPD used to highlight the NORDAN brand as a step above replacement. I am not sure but I think NORDAN went out of business or were bought out.
The Taiwan made replacements I bought from NPD were ok but I did have to massage a few bracket holes to get things lined up to my satisfaction. I ended up loosening the bracket mounting bolts on the frame and tightened them down after fitting the bumper bolts. Be careful not to overtighten the bumper bolts as the replacement bumper metal seems very thin and susceptible to deflection.
Your results may vary.

I've bin thinking about going with these fiberglass or carbon fiber bumpers. There's virually no gap and they can be chromed.

I have been watching a thread on another site about those and the first batch of them had fitment issues. They do look good with the tight fit and body color, for all intents and purposes you can't beat a nice tight fit! ;-)

Nothing I buy aftermarket fits without some massaging. I've gotten quite good at making things work. I also have put together 6 cobra kits and all required some form of rework to get stuff to fit properly.
I spent a few days getting my bumpers to line up to my liking.

6 Cobra kits, that's impressive. What kits did you use? Any big block FE engines? I came close to buying a Factory Five kit, thought long and hard about it, butteye(TS) decided to stay with my Mustang.
I haven't completely ruled out their 33 Hot Rod kit, I think it would be a lot of fun to build.

Factory five. I'm also looking at the hot rod myself. Time is in short supply for me these days.
I built all those prior to children. I currently only have the 66 coupe. I did manage to convert to FI and OD trans over the winter.
