Quick question on replacing rear brake light housing on 66 mustang

Hey everyone just had a quick question. I’m replacing my entire brake light fixtures on my 66 mustang coupe. And in the kit I have these clips for it. I know they go on inside the trunk area on the stud before the bolt goes on.

but when I look at the ones on my passenger side they don’t look like they are installed right. I was curious if anyone could tell me which way they go or if anyone has a photo of the way they should be installed would be awesome.

Thanks.

Re: Quick question on replacing rear brake light housing on 66 mustang

I don't see any photo attached to your post so I am assuming these are the "clips"you are referring to. The sides are cut at an angle so that when installed correctly the stud that is part of the taillight bucket will be perpendicular to the flat face of the clip with the hole through it and the nut will contact the clip completely around it's circumference. There is only one way to install each clip so that the stud is perpendicular to the flat face. Try it and you'll see what I mean.

Re: Quick question on replacing rear brake light housing on 66 mustang

Those U shaped washers go on with the open side facing the light housing and the closed side under the nut. Since the lights fit into the panel at a slight angle the purpose of those special washers is to make it all fit square to the stud. That said, rotate them so they make the nut fit square to the washer. One side of the formed washer is wider than the other so they fit like a little wedge.

When I got my 66 back from Mastercrap body shop after they painted it in 2010, they were installed backwards, upside down and distorted from being installed incorrectly. IDIOTS!!

Ok thanks guys. I think I got them in ok. Does this look ok?  Don’t mind the wiring. That’s on the list to do.
