I have a lot of wheel hop in my 68 Cougar. What have most of you done to help with it?

How many leaves are in your rear spring packs?

I made a set of "Caltrac" traction bars, provides a little movement than the Shelby type traction bars, but still makes for a stiffer ride however, no wheel hop.

Cougar rear springs are 4" longer if I remember and if you still have the rubber cushion wrap, that doesn't help. I would get shorter U bolts and remove the wrap for starters.

I have a 66 8" axle in the car. The Cougar pads and brackets are out, all it has is stock 66 brackets and a 1" drop block.

Well, the lowering blocks aren't helping a bit. As TKO has 'splained in other posts, the blocks just increase the leverage the axle has on the springs under hard acceleration. As he asked above...how many leaves do you have in the rear springs? Stock Mustang was four but many of us are running 4 1/2 leaf which really helps with the spring wrap-up issue. The easiest way to cure the problem, unless you are laying down huge power on huge tires, would probably be to go to a four or five leaf spring with reverse eyes which would probably allow you to scrap the lowering blocks.
I think! Butt (TS&T) others my have better opinions.
The absolute easiest and cheapest way to cure the problem is quit smoking the skins...but how much fun is that?
