Brake light switch

I installed Steves power drum brake kit on my /66 a while ago and it works like a charm. However the brake lights don't come on unless serious pressure is used on the pedal and by that time I am thanking my lucky stars for seat belts. I read that a switch from a /70 with power drum brakes has a lighter spring actuator. Would this solve my problem? TIA.  Mark

Re: Brake light switch

I went from the original 4-wheel manual drum brakes to 4-wheel manual disc brakes (with the appropriate change to a dual master cylinder) and switched to a Hydroboost power brakes (with a different dual master cylinder) and am still using the OEM (1965) brake light switch.  My brake lights come on with minimal pedal movement, and pressure.

Re: Brake light switch

The switch designed for power brakes, 67-70, should take care of it. It has a lighter spring.

As of now i am using the original /66 manual drum brake pedal mounted switch. Further down the post MS tells me that a later power drum switch has a lighter spring (just what I was looking for)

Re: Brake light switch

Problem repaired. I installed a switch from a /69-70 power drum. Hardest part of the job was wiggling out from under the steering wheel (I'm not a young man). Thanks to all respondents. Mark
