    Replacing rear lower valance on 66 coupe

    Hey everyone I have a 1966 mustang coupe and my existing rear valance is all tweeted and has a big dent in it. I found a replacement one from cj pony parts for around 40-50 or so and picked it up. It looks to be pretty decent and a thicker metal than the existing one.

    My question is that it’s in that black coating. That parts come in. What’s the best way to install?  just leave as is until I’m ready to start sanding and painting.

    Or. Should I scuff it up with a scotch brite pad (red) and prime the whole thing front and back? 

    Kinda new to
    The whole body work game. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.

    Welp (thx RPM)......I just left mine black until time to paint it. (within reason of course) Din-nunt have any negative issues.
    If anyone happens to axe you about it.....

    See how it fits before doing anything.  You might need to use my method of fitting them if the lower corners don’t mate up.

    Ok got the old valance off and cleaned up the area below it.  Today I started fitting it. It definitely didn’t fit right. I looked up Mustang Steve’s guide on how to fit the rear valance and took it back to the vice about 4-5 times to bend it slightly to get things matched up. I got it pretty darn close. See pics.   I don’t think i can get it any closer with bending it. It’s not to far off. My question is do you think to get the fit that I need would it be ok to oval the mounting holes in the valance a little where the Phillips head screws go. As it’s a minimal amount it will need to slide over. To mount it. Or should I just drill new holes in the car to mount it. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.

    Alright!  I got it on. I got it super close and still couldn’t get it over all the way. Turns out the seem where the body joins together was blocking it a little. I bent it just a little and that put it right where I was trying to get it.
