Is 1/8" total toe enough with 225/60 x15. 46-5/16 rear side of tire, 46-3/16 front side. It seams to pick the ruts pretty easy. I dont reminder the other numbers but they should be what is specked with the Shelby drop. Or is 28PSI to much?
Our freeways are crappy out here.

Did you do the Shelby drop per Daze's instruction sheet noting the "performance" alignment numbers? I had that tendency to wander and every seam in the road would cause the car to swerve slightly. I did the drop and had the alignment shop do it per Daze's specs and all that went away.

Arning (Shelby) drop per instruction with Daze template, Zero camber, 3.75* positive caster, -1/8" toe (in). Perfect all the way up to way over any speed limit. Drives rock steady. 225-45x17 BFG Advantage TA's. Been on local crappy roads, mountain roads, secondary roads between here and Ft. Walton Beach, FL, and various interstates.
Aligned it myownself and hobbled around for a week after to prove it.

Did you spin and scribe your tires? With toe it is easy to be off by measuring tread instead of scribing a line.
I usually rub chalk on the tire then use something like an awl and a jackastand (as a steady rest). Slowly spin the tire and scribe a line around the circumference. Then measure from scribe to scribe.

No I did inside side wall to side wall and checked with tread blocks. Came up the same. I will droup tire pressire and drive again. if still there I will recheck caster & camber

Go to 32 psi
28 is too low
1/8” toe in is perfect
3+ caster (or up to five if you can get it, same both sides)
Zero camber
Shelby published specs long ago

1/8" total toe in is perfect. Did you start with the tie rods the same length and adjust them equally to get it so the center link is centered?
Caster is what keeps the front end tracking straight. Toe just helps on braking. With the drop you should be able to get 3.5-3.75 degrees positive with '67-up adjustable strut rods. My advice is add 0.25 degrees more positive caster to the RH side. This accounts for road crown and keeps the car tracking straight.

That's interesting. On the way to the Mini-Bash in Kansas last year I had to stop and drain off some front tire pressure. I had brought them up to around 32 before leaving and had to bleed them back to 27 or so. It was so twitchy I couldn't stand it. Really felt bad on the twisty road I was on at the time.
That was with the old PS pump. May have to try it again with the new Lee pump.

OK found that both front wheel bearings were just say a tadd loose. That means I was get a true toe reading. So now after driving it and it tracks straighter that ever the toe is at 0. I think I will add a 1/16" to the front. Tires are still at 28. 3 more than I used to run.

In the end, whatever your experimentation gives the best results is better than a general suggestion from someone who has never touched the car!

I'm running Goodrich, 225/60x15's and have the tire pressure at 26psi on all fours ... seems to work well for me.
REMEMBER!!! When posting a question about your Mustang or other Ford on this forum, BE SURE to tell us what it is, what year, engine, etc so we have enough information to go on. |
