3G alt conversion question

Hello guys, I did this conversion about 2 years ago on my 65, and I used the voltage regulator replacement module that I understand really only controls the GEN light on the dash 
Well on this road trip the has started to flash,blink kinda stays on sometimes for a sec. Voltage never changed and stayed fine for the whole trip. Ideas??

I didn’t install a resistor in my setup, I don’t have the light.

I have factory ‘65 gauges with inductive ammeter.

Although it not clear to me how you have the Gen light wired in on your car with the 3G alternator, when the Gen light is ‘flickering’ in typically means your alternator is not putting out enough voltage compared to the battery voltage.  If it were on solid, it typically means the alternator is not providing any output.  Suggest checking the voltage at the battery which the key ‘off’, then with the engine running.

I bought a 3 G wiring kit from PA performance  back when I did the change, They sold me a regulator box that I have been told has nothing in it.


Slammed Big Blue, ran over the varmints that messed with the Stang. Now all is good in the NW

I used the same conversion on my '67.  There's a resistor or two in the box and some wiring.  Pretty simple as I recall.  Its more for looks and so the factory dash light works, but its not totally empty.

I was looking at this diagram and if I wired my volt gauge as stated it will be on all the time, Where is a good place to tap off from?

You're correct.  Suggest using the 'post' on the rear of the ignition switch, it is powered when the iginition switch is in 'On' or 'Acc'.

That’s funny Chris.

Since I still have my ammeter, never crossed my mind about volt meter.

Ignition switch would be my choice too.

I have a starter/alternator shop where I live, I've been using them for years. I had my F-250 7.3 alternators refreshed with 250,000 miles on them, the shop recommended not to replace the original voltage regulators on them because they said everything available is junk. When they did the 3 g on my Stang they said the same thing. So far I haven't had any problems. When I go to the salvage yard I grab what I find!

I didnt install the "regulator" that came with my wire kit. I opened it up to see how it was supposed to work. There was stuff inside but nothing was hooked up at all. It would not have ever given any reading.
