I have been driving the Galaxie for years now after "finishing" it.  The problem has been the rear leaf springs being way too soft after 60 years.  Obviously the correct fix is new springs or at the very least having the original springs re arced (not an option in my area) but the car is eventually getting a Jag IRS so I didn't want to put $400 into it.  I started with a set of air shocks I had from a previous project.  That solved the sagging rear issues but in order to get enough lift I had to put 90-100 PSI in them and that made the ride harsh.  I tried a helper shock with light weight variable coil over spring and that helped a little but the ride was still not to my liking.  I then discovered add-a-leaf for trucks and other off-road applications.  I did tons of looking and finally found one that would fit the Galaxie leaf springs.  It was a simple install and I am amazed at how well it worked.  It is like driving a totally different car!!   Here is a link to what I added to my car if anyone is interested.  Should work for a lot of Ford applications.
