    Fox body Mustang power steering pump on a 66

    Can anyone tell me whether a fox body mustang power steering pump will work on a 66 with a serpentine set up but with the original steering box? I have no idea of the pressure that the two different pumps put out or whether the pressure can be adjusted. It is just easier to fit the Fox pump on the serpentine bracketry as it stands rather than rig up a good solid platform for the original pump. Obviously its a 302 EFI set up which many of you have done, so any info greatly received.

    If your talking about the pump with the plastic reservoir, I can say this.   I had one on my Galaxies four door hardtop when I bought it.    The power steering is basically identical. The pump was loud, it whined.   Shortly after I bought it, I blew a hose as I was backing out my driveway.  That could easily have been old crusty hoses fault, though.   It seemed to functioned fine.   I suspect it had more pressure than the rest of the system needed.

    If multiple things can go wrong, the one that will go wrong will be the one that causes the most damage.

    Yes.

    Josh-kebob is our Guinea pig for the Lee Power steering Ford pump that is quiet.

    I used a stock style pressure hose for a Thompson pump (‘65 289 w/power steering) and cut the 90 degree line off and had the new fitting crimped on.

    The swivel adapter is optional if hose is shorter…if needed.

    The banjo fitting…if you can get copper washers with it would be better than the aluminum ones.
    Had to TORQUE on it to seal the aluminum washers….didn’t like it at all, but was required to stop the seepage.  It has been fine since. Thanks Barry (50vert)!

    I'm running a fox pump with a borgeson steering box.
    Quiet as a mouse peeing on a cotton ball...

    Yes Graham, the 5.0 pump seems to work just fine with the stock assist type power steering.  We ran the Heap that way for over 15K miles.  When I changed to the Borgeson PS steering box I kept the 5.0 pump until last year.  On JKB's recommendation I went to the Lee Sagainaw pump in Ford clothing (looks and bolts on just like the Ford but has Saginaw innards( and that works way better with the Borgeson Box and it's quiet.
    Like NOS, I had a shop  marry a Fox swivel fitting to a stock pressure hose and it worked fine.
    Sounds like you are getting close....we need PIX!!

    Dan, I remember when I thought of a banjo, I checked the face of the fitting in the pump that would become the sealing surface. It had a cast appearance, (slightly lumpy). When I bought the banjo, I also bought some copper crush washers and Earls statoseal washers, just in case.
    Worse case, I'd clean the face of the fitting in a lathe.
    I guess I got lucky .... it sealed first time, with the aluminum washers, with not a lot of torque.

    I used 600wet/dry with oil on a piece of glass to smooth it out to ensure it had full contact with aluminum washer.
    I only dressed the end of the stock pump fitting.

    Copper works better.

    Have an idea that the washers weren’t annealed.

    IIRC banjo fittings used in high pressure applications have annular striations their surface to provide a better seal.
