Vent Window Seal Replacement

1966 Mustang Coupe, 5.0 Swap, T5z

Pretty sure I know the answer to this but I'll ask anyway...
Is there a way to replace the seals on the vent window without pulling out the entire vent window sub assembly?  From watching a video, it appears you have to essentially disassemble the entire door and pull the window out to get it out.

Subsequently, would I be better off just buying the whole window vent subassembly?  I bought a seal replacement kit but I'm just wondering by the time It's al said and done should I have just replaced the whole damn thing.

Re: Vent Window Seal Replacement

IMO you will be better off doing a complete restoration of the assembly...possibly including
re-chroming the frame and maybe re-seating the glass in new tape.  All of that depends the condition of what you have.  Once you get it out replacing the seal is not that tough and I guarantee the fit/finish of a repop item will not be up to what you can have by restoring. And the price of the repop stuff is probably equal, or nearly so, to the price of the chrome job.  You gotta pull the thing apart either way so why not DIODIR?
You may be able to get the vent assembly and front window guide out as a unit without having to remove the rest of the door innards.  It's been many years so I just don't recall.

Re: Vent Window Seal Replacement

IF...........I remember right...... The vent window assembly can come out with the big window still in place.
BUTT...the amount of wiggle & finiggle required...your're just as well off to remove the window (replace the old hard grease and the nylon rollers and put "anti sneeze" on the moving parts). WYAIT.......clean and vacuum the inside of the door....enlarge the drain holes in the bottom....spray the inside of the door with spray on bed liners/undercoating...lube the lock assembly....put rubber tubing on the steel rods to stop rattles...adjust the for & aft of the window to eliminate(yeah...right!) wind whistle and rain leaks(like you gonna drive it in the rain!...yeah!)...then maybe have a good look at the door hinge bushings and the door "fit"...on  & on!!!
3 hour job turns into a weekender!!!!!

Re: Vent Window Seal Replacement

You can remove the vent window and front track without even removing the glass. Unbolt and pull up

Does this require some steve workaround magic?  The door itself is pretty good.  Everything seems to move and latch properly.  The interior weather seal on the vent window is pretty much chipped and gone.  My fear in taking it all apart is getting it to fit again even with the perfect reinstall.  Can you elaborate a bit on pulling just the vent window?  thanks

These two videos show removing the entire door window assembly to get to the vent window:

This write up seems to show removing just the vent window but skips the part where they actually remove the vent window:

Re: Vent Window Seal Replacement

I just unbolted the vent window and front track assembly and pulled it straight up with the window glass in DOWN position. This was several years ago, so details can fade, but I do remember thinking that I did not think it was possible, but I just did it.
You probably have to remove the two jack bolts from the frame and track for it to come up cleanly.
