Vehicle: 1963 Ranchero V-8.
I'm in the process of installing power steering stuff that was gifted to me. I'm not able to get information as to the source of the PS parts as the person who provided them (distant relative) is having serious medical problems and is not able to communicate.
I think the parts were purchased as replacements for a '66 Mustang.
I've changed the center link to the correct Falcon unit. My spindles have been changed, about 15 years ago, to use the large wheel bearings and 11.3" discs with single piston calipers. I don't remember what spindles they are. Everything I've done is with Ford parts.
I've figured out the new left outer tie rod end is too small for the spindle, but maybe because I'm old, I can't figure out which shim I need to make this all work. My Ranchero has been on my lift for 2 months, and I miss driving it.
This shim is keeping the car on the lift. Help.

Can't help on the shim but I'll bet MS will soon. I just want to welcome you to the best place on the web and also thank you for including your location....wish more folks would. Also, you are NOT the only Falconator on here. Welcome again.

The 63 V8 Falcon used the larger tie rods, same as 75-80 Granada spindles. It would help to know what spindles you have. There is a number cast onto the vertical part of the spindle between the upper and lower ball joints. If you can post it, or compare it to the MustangSteve chart, that will be half of the info needed.
Since the car was converted to Mustang power steering parts, it probably uses 65-66 Mustang driver side tie rods, since they are the only tie rods that fit on the Mustang power steering parts. If your driver side outer tie rod has a weird bend in it, then that is the 65-66 v8 power steering tie rod.
So, if you have a Granada spindle, you would need (based on those assumptions) the TRB-65GR adapter.
If you have more info to go by, please post it here.

The driver side spindle casting number is D0ZA-3108 which seems to be a 1970 Mustang part. One year only, BTW.
The tie rod end is a 65 V-8 power steering.

That is a cool car.
My first car, at age 15, was a 63 Ranchero, but mine had the high powered 170 with a two speed automatic😖
That one has to go downl in the ONE THAT GOT AWAY list.
Will you be joining us at the bash September 17?

I wish I could, but this project has used up my resources for probably the rest of the year.

Welcome to the forum Jim. Bullet Bob raved to me how cool these guys here were before I attended my first bash. I held off judgment until Corky held a bash clear across the country in Fort Walton Beach Florida. That 2017 bash was my first, and BB was spot on about his assessment of the quality of the forum members.
If you're from Arkansas, how'd you pick Modestojim? I've got a few buddies up in Motown.

In Bearing Bob true fashion, he drove all the way from California to Ft Walton Beach, Florida only to watch us do a hurry-up-get-outta-town burnout to avoid the incoming hurricane. I was driving my brand new 2017 Shelby GT350 and drove it all the way back to Texas in a blasted hurricane.

It is always great to see my Mustang Friends, no matter what the circumstances bring.

I lived in Modesto for about 20 years before moving to the Ozarks 15 years ago. Bought my Ranchero in Stockton in 2004.Got my Pilot License in Modesto. Ha! Only the locals call it Motown!
REMEMBER!!! When posting a question about your Mustang or other Ford on this forum, BE SURE to tell us what it is, what year, engine, etc so we have enough information to go on. |
