My BASH THRASH begins anew

Found out today there is a glob of grease under my right rear axle bearing and it has gotten on the disc brake rotor and the wheel rim.  Left side has evidence of a leak beginning.

Tomorrow it gets new seals and bearings.

The party never ends.

Don’t give my car any ideas….. I’ll be under it changing oil tomorrow.

Re: My BASH THRASH begins anew

My old Jeep just failed a state inspection for this very same reason.   Grease on the rotor is a no go.   I haven't touched it yet.  License ran out on it now.

I just got the stuff to repair it from RA.   But the nassy part is it has those inner emergency brake shoes.   Got to do those too.

I didn't even realize it was leaking...

What year and model Jeep? I've got a 2004 Grand Cherokee, and yes, those rear emergency brake shoes are a PITA to change. Fun stuff....

Re: My BASH THRASH begins anew

Yeah its also a 2004.  Its a Limited, so its pretty loaded.   Its seen its better days, but I just can't bear to let it go.  Its been a darn good ride.   I drove it to the first Vandalia bash...

I did read someone makes the entire brake on the backing plate now to switch out but I didn't look for them.   The shoes were suprisingly real cheap on RA.   I ain't looking forward to this.

Re: My BASH THRASH begins anew

Greg B and Ron68 – just wondering if you had this issue; my son had a 2004 Grand Cherokee that was like 3-4 years old and the electric windows and door locks both stopped working.  He ‘googled’ the problem and it identified a possible broken power wire in the driver’s door jam wiring harness.  Yes, that was the problem.  I was surprised to see this wire was not a very flexible and susceptible (IMO) to breakage due to the constant opening and closing the door.  We spliced in a new, more flexible wire, and didn’t have the issue again.

Re: My BASH THRASH begins anew

Yes that is a common problem.   I had that problem on our old 2003 Dodge Caravan (also once driven to bash IV Billy's bash) on the drivers side, and on my Jeep on the passenger side.  That wire is a little thicker gauge than the others in the harness and I guess just didn't hold up well.  Have to split that harness find the break, and add some length.

Yup Bob - already dealt with that one. I also spliced in a longer more flexible ground wire and another wire that was also broken. Not a great design by Chrysler for sure. My Jeep is the Overland with all the bells and whistles....
