    Today’s car show at Canyon Lake

    The show today was at a park by the lake. Exiting the show was across the top of the dam. It seemed everywhere I went, that super beetle on the Exploder 4x4 chassis was there.

    I always loved your Fastback. Such a beautiful looking machine and such a great colour choice.
    By the way, what is the width of your rear tires?

    225x45/17 front on 7"
    245x45/17 rear on 8"
    Custom rear end width so they fit right.

    I currently have 215x60/15 front and rear on mine. Next set of tires, I was hoping to put 235's on the rear, but I think I'm limited to 225 due to 7" wide rims.

    In deed a fine look'in fastback!! (runs pretty good too......)
    Tarz dilemma........I ran 225-60-15 on my 66 and even with the rolled lips I occasionally got scrub.
    Last set I bought was 215-65-15 and now I don't have to listen to scruuunch when hitting pot holes and turning in driveways and such.
    Unless yours is severely traction limited......stick with what you got. Peace of mind is great and YOU will be the only one who knows you didn't MAX out the rear tire size.
    UNLESS..........you do the rear tubz and narrowed axles........then go WILD ! (Trick is an under statment)

    You are probably correct. I would love a wider set on just the rear though...

    Put wheels on with the correct backspacing and you can fit wider tires.  A 14x6 with wrong backspacing will cause tire rub.

    I would check with BFG on tire width of 225  and 235, I looked briefly and saw that 225 was 9” wide on a 6.5” rim and 235 was 9” wide on a 7” rim but about an inch taller.
    You might be OK.

    Backspacing is your friend…especially for your tires.

    The largest combo I had was BFG’s 235/60/14.

    Super Shops application chart of some sort listed these for a 65 Mustang.

    EDIT: Cragar 10 hole wheels and if you zoom in, more info on level laying across tire

    14” x 6-1/2”
    (7-3/8” overall width)
    (ONLY 3-1/2” back spacing)

    BFG 235/60/14 had a section width of 9-1/4”, diameter I don’t recall.

    4” to 4-1/2” back spacing would have been better.

    Rear is Mustangs Plus 5 leaf mid-eye (90’s vintage).
    Front is Mustangs Plus 620’s (stock upper control arm location)
    Front had Granada spindles and brakes
    Front and rear …KYB Gas-a-Just shocks

    Had light grazing on passenger side…found out axle could have shifted a little to eliminate scrape.
    Only occurred with heavier passengers in rear.
    No fenders rolled first 25+ years.

    If I had the Arning/Shelby drop,…not sure if there would be any issues.
    Never had that combo with these wheels.
    4” to 4-1/2” would have been better too.

    I have 225/60-15’s (BF Goodrich T/A’s) all around, American Racing Torq-Thrust ‘D’ 15x7 wheels w/3.75” backspacing.
    I agree with other posts, check the gaps between tire and the inner and outer fenders, and backspacing of the existing wheels before going much bigger then 225/60’s.
    To be safe, one may want to stick with 215/60’s.

    65 Fastback, 351W, 5-speed, 4 wheel discs, 9" rear,  R&C Front End.

    If those 15x7 wheels had 4” or even up to 4.375” backspacing the tires would fit much better under the fenders.

    When I lived in Arlington, WA late 90's, I saw a 65/66 with BFG AT's.
    As I recall, they were 195/75/14 on all corners.
    Looked pretty cool too.

    Perhaps I should look into that option?

    My Honda has Cooper Discoverer True North.
    Works great on snow and ice.
