Re: Window Tinting

My 64.5 D-code, non AC, coupe has the green tinted glass. Sun-X is what I believe it's labeled as.

Re: Window Tinting

If I do get tint, it will be to help cut out the UV, stop some glare and reduce "some" heat. Apparently some manufacturers offer certain grades of tint that offer good UV protection.
I would make sure the tint is legal before having it applied to the windows.
Does anyone know how long tinting lasts and is it problematic to remove?

I've never had an issue with tint installed by a reputable shop. My 2003 F150's tinted windows look perfect.
Additionally, a reputable tint shop has a listing of each states legal tint limit and/or if tinted windows are even allowed.

THAT IS IT!  Sun-X. Where did eye ease come from?

I swapped tinted glass from a donor car into Cara’s 65 coupe many years ago. No telling what happens to these cars through the years.  And I bet you could order tinted glass for a non AC car back then.

That sounds like the best way forward.  Thanks!

I do not recall tinting was even available in '66, anywhere.  It was not on mine when I bought it.  It is a coupe, though.

I should have also stated that my 65 did not come with A/C.  If I remember correctly, tinted windows was a required option when A/C was installed back in those years.

Fastback rear windows were all tinted same as the factory tint installed on airconditioned cars, even if not AC equipped. Same does not apply to coupes. Your statement concerning coupe tint is correct. It was very light, slightly green if you put a white towel behind it. Also has label. I think it said “eye ease”?

MS - I checked the rear window on my fastback and found 'Sun-X' on the label.  The label had ‘Car Light’, in script also. I believe the glass is original.
Anyway, I think an increase in tinting shade is in the future.  Thank for the info.

I remember when I was stationed at Fort Hood TX in 1987 I had my 1979 Mustang Tinted.  80% on back window and 50% on the sides.   When my tour was up in TX I drove home to Wisconsin.  About 5 miles in to Wisconsin I get pulled over by a State Trooper.  He took a knife and starting peeling the side of my tint off.  He said this isn't factory and your getting fined for having it on your car.  So I had to pull it all off when I got home and have my car inspected by the trooper office when I was done.  I went through a bottle of Goo Gone to get the sticky residue off the windows...LOL

What a dick!

The cop probably drives a Camaro.
