How do you remove ignition switch if you don't have the key?

You need the key and a wire to remove the tumbler. Is there a way to remove from dash if you don't have the key?

May have to trailer your 65 to a locksmith. With my 69 I took the removable lower dash to the locksmith.

Remove a door lock, and have a key cut for it. Some places can still cut a key by the numbers stamped on original locks.

1/2”” drill bit

I would try all the Ford keys I had!! Sometimes you get lucky. The keys that came with my 67 was the same cut for the 85 that I had.

For a fee, the locksmith should come to you.

The 1/2” drill bit is the most cost effective method.

Re: How do you remove ignition switch if you don't have the key?

On these old cars the door and ignition keys are different. I bought a set that had the ignition and doors keyed alike. So unless that had been done on your car, pulling the door lock probably wouldn't help. Back to the drill idea..

Good, fast or cheap. Pick any two...

These old cars had two keys when new. Doors/ignition, and boot/glovebox.
The thinking was that you could secure your belongings, when you had to give a key to a valet or mechanic.
This won't help Ed if he doesn't have the door lock though.

I'll second this option, the local locksmith was able to do that for me.  If there numbers on the door lock, it is worth a try.

Re: How do you remove ignition switch if you don't have the key?

If I remember correctly hold the chrome outer ring in place, push in on the switch from the back side and turn it. I don't remember how far, if it's a quarter turn or screw it off. The switch has a spring on it that you are pushing against that is fairly heafty. Then take the switch to a lock smith to get a key made.

Can’t do that unless the key/tumbler have been removed with the key

Well, I guess I didn't remember that, even after I read it.
