How do yall come up with best tire pressure to run on your classic cars with more modern Tires and wheel combos.

I’ve been running 26psi on 225/60-15s, both front and rear, on Goodrich T/A radials. I can’t say it is the ‘best’, but seems to be OK for me.

'Play-with-it'!
If the tire seems to wear more in the center......lower the pressure.
IF the tire wears more on the edges (and feels like it wallows around on a turn)...jack up the pressure.
Think I run 28lbs. (when I remember to ck.!)

My 66 handles mushy if tires have less than 32.
45 series 17” tires. Not sure how that affects pressure requirement

I will try 32

This might cause people to freak out, but I run a minimum of 36psi in my tires and will even go as high as 38psi.
I find running less than 36psi is just spongey and I've driven many years with these higher pressures without any problems.
It's totally up to you on what you do Billy.

I run 35# on all my radials

One a performance car experimentation is typically the best way. I found 35psi on my WRX to be spot on, which I thought was really high for a performance car, but the tires wear properly and it handles best like that. I run 32ish on the '67.
For trucks, etc. you go by weight. There are times I've got 100psi in the rear tires of my F250 if I'm towing or hauling heavy. I run 65psi in them normally.

I use the race car method. Go out and drive for 10 plus minutes keeping moving in situations like you normally drive. Stop and quickly use tire pyrometer to measure 3 spots across each tire tread, outside middle and inside. Adjust pressure to get all three close to same. I also use this method to adjust camber setting. Car works much better if you are using all the tread.

I checked mine today and all 4 had 25....I bumped them up to 32.

REMEMBER!!! When posting a question about your Mustang or other Ford on this forum, BE SURE to tell us what it is, what year, engine, etc so we have enough information to go on. |
