Courtesy light issue

Hello all,
68 mustang 289 c-4.
When opening the driver side  door, interior lights don’t turn on. Open the pass side door, lights come on. Could this be a bad headlight switch? The door pin switches are good. Thanx

Re: Courtesy light issue

how do you know the door pin switches are good?  Did  you swap them side to side and test?

Re: Courtesy light issue

Do the courtesy lights work via the headlight switch?
The wire on the driver’s side could be the issue.  The Green-Yellow wire (#54) on the door switch provides +12v to the switch, if you don’t have this power to the switch, there is a problem with that wire … that wire is fed from the head switch.

Re: Courtesy light issue

No, they don’t work via the switch either, Headlights work, gauge lights work. I guess ill put in a new switch and see what happens, will check that green/yellow wire also. Thanx for yiu input, keep ya posted.

Re: Courtesy light issue

I took the dash out, there was a green/yellow wire that was pulled out from somewhere, don’t know where it came from but it was near the connector that went to the back of the instrument cluster, but it seems that all of the  wires are accounted for, can i splice this to the green/yellow in the connector?

Re: Courtesy light issue

I believe the wire you found likely goes to the door switch.  The Green-Yellow wire you found may have pulled out of the headlight switch, there are two Green-Yellow wires connected to the headlight switch.  Find this second Green-Yellow wire on the switch, and you can slice into it.
If you want, send me a PM with your email address, I'll forward you a sketch I made of the headlight switch.

Re: Courtesy light issue

Seems like there was 2 green/yellow wires going to one connector pin that connects to connector on back of gauge cluster-so i pulled the other one out twisted them together and put them both back to pin connector, everything is fine now. Thanx for your input, much appreciated!
