Interesting 4 Cylinder

Ever since Ford teased us with their Ecoboost 4 cylinder crate engine I have thought how cool one would be in a lightweight early Mustang. Sadly the Ecoboost weighs as much or more than a traditional SBF.

But check this thing out, yeah it's 80% GM, but they say it can take a Windsor head and uses Windsor main bearings Longblock weight is 300lbs, now that's more like it! If this little motor is successful maybe Ford or another aftermarket company will take notice and come up with something more Ford based.

That’s cool.

A mini with that and a TKX. 😎

Re: Interesting 4 Cylinder

I saw something about that but didn't follow up.  Yep, big inch four-bangers are way fun.  Model A or B normally had 4" bore X 4.25 stroke.  This has 4.125 X 4.  Long stroke Bangers make loads of grunt.  Love it, thanks Raymond.

Re: Interesting 4 Cylinder

I hear LS head bolt patterns is about the same as any SBF.  Cleveland valve covers will bolt up.

Re: Interesting 4 Cylinder

Half a 427!
My 427 has 4.125” bore and 4” stroke. Engine with TKO 600 tranny ( less accessories) weighs roughly 350 pounds.

I have also thought an eco boost four in an early convertible would be neat, but what is the point/fun in that?

Money you enjoy wasting is NOT wasted money... unless your wife finds out.

Re: Interesting 4 Cylinder

International built V8s and 4 cylinders where the 4 cylinders were literally the V8s with a bank lopped off.  There was a cover plate and everything.  The straight 6 Cummins Diesel (6BT) they used in the Dodge pickups was also made in a 4 cylinder version (4BT) I've seen swapped into everything from a '69 Camaro to a Chevy Blazer.

4.25x4 is the same bore and stroke as a 454.

Interesting.

I wonder what this 4 cyl would weigh if it were all aluminum

What fun? I guess part of it would be that it's different and the next part would be that it would be really light!
