1968 Mustang Coupe - Tire size

Hey Steve,
Recently, I purchased a set of American Racing rims, measuring 17x7 with a backspacing of 4 inches. What size tires would you recommend?

Re: 1968 Mustang Coupe - Tire size

For the 68 Mustang, a 235x45/17 is typical. Note it may look odd for low profile tires on a stick height car.  You could go 245/45 in back but would work better on an 8” rim with 4.5” backspacing.

Lots of variables here.  Ride height, stance, how aggressive do you want? Etc etc

Welcome to the forum. I moved your post here to the Tech session.

Copy that! I have a set of 4 of the 7" rims and unfortunately, it's too late to return the second two for the 8". I'm not looking for an aggressive look. It's factory height. I'm not opposed to the car looking factory.

I think Ed has 215x55/17 on his 65. It has a little larger (taller) sidewall. Fills up the fender better on a 68

Also, be sure to look at the pictures of all the 67-68 cars posted under the recent PICTURES post. See one you like?  Ask the owner what size tires they have on it.

Re: 1968 Mustang Coupe - Tire size

You are limited by the front if you want the same size front and rear.  If you don't mind staggered sizes you can get a 275 in the rear with the right backspacing if you don't mind rolling the lips on the wheel openings (at stock ride height).
