Working on my 65 coupe maybe. Can one cut into the kick panel to install speakers. I currently have the raised ones and they seem to be in way of my feet. I just dont know how deep or sealed this area is?
As always, your help and expertise is deeply appreciated.

That's why they make the raised ones. No room behind the 65-66 kick panel. Got the same problem here...I just learned to live with it. Also put two speakers in the rear package tray,

You can cut the metal panels and weld/seam seal a cup section in there. Other than that, cutting will result in a waterfall effect

I bought some too hope to get them in soon ....whats the measurement from the clutch pedal?

Thank you, this is why I ask. I will continue to live with.

I am thinking of putting one of these in the dash.
Of course with the hearing aids i have, don't know if it will make a lot of difference,
They have em for a 65-66 also.

Maybe you can do some "out of the cup" thinking here. First imagine that it is even possible to fit a speaker into a tiny space like your cell phone... much less a speaker that even works well enough to be able to use with the phone held away from your ear when you click the "speaker" button. With these advances in speaker technology one would have to wonder if an improvement is available for our traditional speakers. I did a search for "thin" speakers and found a hit on Crutchfield. I've never used them but perhaps thin speakers like these would be able to fit in the kick panels better: (as expected, not cheap)

Doing a little more searching, here are some "low profile" speakers made for the marine environment:
These are listed to be 1" deep and they are reasonably priced. Again, I haven't used them but perhaps these would work in our noisy classic interiors.
...just a thought

With the use of better magnets, speakers can be made thin.
Take a look at iPods and Bluetooth speakers.
I may have to look into those thin speakers.
Alan…I made my own dash speaker assembly with a pair of Kicker 4” speakers…it’s tight.
Most of those pre-made assemblies have crappy 3-1/2” speakers.
Works great, however limited on low frequencies…that’s what the subwoofer is for.

U cut a hole in the metal panel and insert a well sealed dog dish bowl like the kind you can get at Walmart.
Seen several pictures of it. I will see if I can find one. I used to save pics like that on my old computer.

I found these on Amazon for $54.00-$75.00Infinity Reference 6532EX EZFit 6.5" Shallow Mount 165 Watts Peak Power Car Audio Coaxial Speakers . I currently have there 6x9s in my rear deck and they crank out quality sound. There only 2-1/8" deep so I think rebuilding the kick panel pods and I should have almost 2 more inches on the floor. We will see, pics to follow

To find the mounting depth of those Infinity speakers, I had to download the owner's manual. Those have a mounting depth of about 2 inches. The marine speakers, I think, are half that. ...just info

A good thing about Amazon is that the return process has always been easy for me. Hope it continues that way. Anyway, you could order both sets of speakers so that you can examine them in hand. Then return the ones you don't like.
