92 GT

There's a 92 5.0 5 speed that looks very clean for a good price. Very clean interior, says original. It has 4 lug wheels, is this correct. I would have thunk it would be 5 lug.


If this forum can't fix it, it isn't broke.

94 was return of 5 lug wheels.

Yeah, crazy as it sounds all Fox cars were 4lug.  They can be converted to 5 lug pretty easily with commonly available parts.

Another upgrade was using Lincoln Mark VII rotors (5x4.5”) and calipers (73mm).

Stock Mustang non SVO calipers were 60mm.

The other upgrade was changing out the stock factory 3 outlet master cylinder and brake booster to 93 Cobra components.

Maximum Motorsports has a lot of brake upgrades and tech information.

Inspect the front shock towers closely.  That's where they rust.  If the heater core is bypassed, it probably has a bad heater core, and a rusty pass side floor pan.  Look at the rear torque boxes too.  That's where the evidence of hard driven 5 speed cars show their wear.

The primary reason guys swap to 5 lug is to get a wider variety of wheel upgrades.  You are almost limited to Weld Drag Lites or Drag Stars with the 4 lugs. (unless you are like me and dig the Pony wheels.)

I find them to be fun cars that the Mrs. loves to drive, too.

Wheel wise it depends on what you want.  I'd advise checking LMR, etc. before committing to a 5 lug swap to get better wheel selection.  I thought that initially too, but found some styles of wheel were actually harder or impossible to find in 5 lug. 

On the brakes, the fronts aren't the issue; its the rear drums.  However, IMO if you are going to upgrade to 5 lug anyway to convert to '94-'03 Cobra brakes is pretty straightforward.  That's what I did on my '89 GT.

Bob / Barry thanks for the sediments, I thought I placed a reply hear a little while back. Don't know what happened to it, must not have hit send. Anyway we can't make over a week drive happen then. Brenda and I are talking about doing a 3 or 4 day fly-by. Nothing in stone yet. Thanks again.

As far as the Stang it was posted on Facebook. I sent a message to the owner. Didn't hear back for a few days, rechecked the post and it was gone. $8K for a GT with about 65K miles sounded good. Car looked really nice in the pics but I never got the chance to find out.
