Just bought an AFR gauge. Any certain spots to not put the O2 sensor. I have EEC IV, long tube headers, and A9 ECM.
Was planning on putting it in the collector about the same place as the O2 sensor for the ECM.

The AFR gauge you purchased should have come with installation instructions. In general the sensor is placed a distance after the header tubes enter the collector. It is usually recommended not to install below the 3 or 9 o'clock to preclude any moisture entering the sensor.
Otherwise, I would install in the same place as the O2 sensor for the ECM.

Just check your access to fill/drain plugs and cable clutch.
Also give yourself enough space to get wrench/socket on the sensors.
Don’t forget anti seize on threads.

I recently installed a AFR gauge from Speedhut. The harness that runs from the gauge to the o2 sensor is way to long. I have the gauge in my console and bundled up the excess but wondered if there would be any issues with how the gauge reads if i cut some of the excess out and reconnect the wires with high quality butt connectors and heat shrink? would definitely look nice and i won't end up with a bundle of wires under my console. thoughts?

I had the same issue with mine. I was not sure if the wiring was the type that could be spliced or not, so I just left the bundle under the console as well.

You can make wires shorter, just don’t get them mixed up.
Personally, I would leave the pre terminated connector on sensor ”as received.”
I would only modify the length of the “universal harness” to the gauge.
I would suggest leaving some slack to allow for changes or repairs in future.
I would solder and heat shrink. If you stagger the splices, it will keep wire bundle neat and tidy instead of one big splice.
Bosch has a nice reference article to help.

That's a great bit of advice, most O2 sensor wiring is not meant to be cut and/or spliced.
