The stock spring perch sits on top of the upper control arm.
Can the spring perch be mounted to underside (modifications required of course)?
Instead of studs, can grade 8 bolts (or higher) or larger diameter bolts?
I was thinking, this would allow additional shock travel for cars that have been lowered.

Short answer, no. The outboard side of the perch is directly above the ball joint. Simply not enough real estate with the stock configuration.

What's the long answer?

Do like some cars and just put the end of the spring hard against the UCA and let the spring flex as the UCA travels. The movement is not that great anyway.

Probably something involving a lot of engineering, because you could make anything work if you really, REALLY wanted to.

The bottom of the UCA isn't contoured to make that easy. If you remove material in that well area you would considerably weaken the arm. I suppose you could use spacers and longer bolts to lower it below the well (assuming a long enough coil over), but the spacers become a lever and may cause the mounting points in the UCA or the bolts to fail. Alternately you could fabricate some L shaped pieces and weld them to the UCA to avoid the spacers. That would probably be the safest way to do it, Just keep in mind that with the factory setup if the spring perch fails, bolts break, etc. the spring is still captured above the UCA. If the the bolts fail, cross shaft breaks, etc. while its UNDER the UCA the suspension collapses on that side and carnage likely ensues.
My thoughts are, if you want to pursue that concept fabricate a UCA from round or square stock so the mounting location is where you want it, AND the arm still has proper strength. You can also keep the safer captured spring setup the OEM system has by simply lowering the coilover mount relative to the UCA center line.
