AOD Transmission

I've paid attention to the discussion regarding AODE & 4R70W vs AOD and although many will disagree and I may regret it I have pretty much decided to go with an AOD (hopefully 88-93) to replace my C-4.
I've seen an ad for a rebuilt AOD from a '90 Mustang 5.0, valve body shift kit - less than 3K miles on it. Is this a good match for my '67, 302? Thanks for any advice.  E.

Re: AOD Transmission

I bought mine off craigs list 2 years ago.  the guy had the tranny with shift kit installed along with a brand new 2500 stall and flexplate, floor shifter and TV cable All from a 82 t bird.  he had it all priced separetly which totaled about $600.  I asked hime what his bottom dollar was he replied "would you give me $300??"  I couldn't get the money out of my pocket fast enough!  I knew NOTHING about that tranny except he said he put a shift kit in it!  took a gamble and so far the tranny has held together pretty good. Just ask Bullet Bob! Behind my stock 89 302 HO it will bark the tires when I bang second gear!!  that's with 3:00 gears.  He also threw in an external trans cooler and lines he had made out of hydralic hoses

You can buy one from PATC stock for $1320 plus freight

Re: AOD Transmission

I'm fine with ours.  If you are not  making a pile of HP  and not gonna race it they will do just fine for a cruiser.  And, box for box they are at least $600 (Price of the controller) cheaper than the 4R70W.  If you want best performance, spend the bux and go with the  later E-Box.

As for your "deal", well, as long as you don't need to ship it, it might be worth a try.  If you have any doubt or if he wants very much you can buy a core for very little, borrow BB's portable AOD tool kit, and for about $600 you can rebuild it with the good stuff and put in a new TC.
