The top of the shaft bears the weight of the Mustang with the spring on top of the control arm in intermediate and pony cars. So the grease slot mod should be on bottom, correct? That said, where would be the best place to cut a grease slot into a full size control arm shaft? The spring pressure is on the lower control arm and frame. Also, they did not come with any mounting bolts, I'm going to assume some nice grade 8? Tack welded.
I been thinking about it, and I think it might be best to put it on the outer side facing the fender.
Edit to add a second post with pictures because it wouldn't let me edit post on this one.

Here is a picture of the shafts I got delivered today. Early ones are very similar to Mustang shafts.
I also broke down and splurged and ponied up the big bucks for new sunvisor brackets. The epoxy didn't hold. They have more pressure on them than one might think. Notice the made in sticker...
Can't blame a guy for trying to save some good ole American made pot metal.

I believe the factory nuts are an all metal locknut. I seem to recall a story on here about a member who's car had the nuts come loose. Otherwise, I would use grade 8.

Slot position probably won’t matter since the coil spring acts on the LCA. I like your thinking about putting them facing outward.
REMEMBER!!! When posting a question about your Mustang or other Ford on this forum, BE SURE to tell us what it is, what year, engine, etc so we have enough information to go on. |
