The next 5.0 is in work

This is going to be a stock Foxbody 5.0 short block build with original, forged, dished pistons, stock rods and a .010/.010 fresh crank. Double roller timing chain and stock cam with stock lifters, dogbones, and spider.  Standard volume oil pump and foxbody rear sump pickup.

The block is standard bore and I thoroughly measured it.  After honing, it showed no more than .0005” of wear, so virtually NO wear.  (I love my new dial bore indicator that measures to 0.0001”)
I used a 320 grit bottle brush hone to produce about 60 degree crosshatch.

I painted the block today and put it outside in my paint drying oven at 100 degrees for two hours. It is seriously baked on.

This one has a buyer waiting.

Re: The next 5.0 is in work

Hopefully, the end of an old business. Once these four engines are gone, I don't plan on doing any more.  At least, not until something special comes along.

Re: The next 5.0 is in work

I finished this 5.0 as a shortblock and the buyer is coming to get it Friday. Next build is a standatd bore Explorer with flat top pistons and freshly reworked E7 heads.  Basically just like the first one I sold.

Today I ordered a 331 stroker kit for the final block. That one will get the Gt40 heads (milled 0.030” like the factory Cobra versions) and 289 hipo manifolds and a three deuce setup. It is planned for my 65 convertible.  That particular block had two cylinders requiring sleeves to clean up at 4.030”.  I don’t have a problem with sleeves if there was no catastrophic damage to the block first.

This leaves me with a bunch of extra parts left over. I have a brand new set of 0.030 over Speed Pro hypereutectic flat top pistons with moly rings and a new set of 0.040 over dished pistons with rods attached.  Plus tons of other engine parts.  I will post all this stuff on the swap meet page soon.
