WELP...........I continue to do it !!!!!!!

I had to wrench on the S-10 Mustang partz chaser today.
I believe......either we work on our Mustangs every day or......the DD will cr^p-the-bed and force you to work on it....Your choice butt-one is gonna want attention !

Anyhow......It's been over heating off and on and I did the regular stuff.. Flush the radiator
                                                                                                                  BACK Flush the radiator
                                                                                                                  Flush the engine
                                                                                                                  Eliminated thermostat
                                                                                                                    (I know- I know!!!)
I even ran a radiator full of vinegar for a month to get the red mud outta the engine.
(It got to the point I wanted a salad every time I dove the old girl)
Anywho.....I got plenty of red mud out of it every time.
I FINALLY managed to get clear water
Filled with coolant and distilled water

WELP...today it was spewing and smoking and the needle was all the way ABOVE the hot mark!!(The warning light even came on!!!) OH CR^P
Whatz the first thing I do..........start thinking & planning on pulling the heads and replace the head  gaskets!!
What else could it be?????  Right!!!
How 'bout a leaking gasket on the Thermostat/coolant neck (on top of the engine)   ?!!!

Why does my /our mind immediately go to the most expensive/difficult fix ??! Each time I promise myself I won't do that any more....until the next time!!
(Like the time I pulled the bed off....changed out the fuel pump AND fuel filter....when it was just a bad spark plug wire making it buck & jump like a faulty fuel pump)
This time though.....I only pulled the fan shroud....both upper and lower hoses...flushed the engine AND radiator AGAIN!!! ....and lost the radiator drain plug TWICE in the grass !
I swear I AIN'T gonna -oh no I used a word I shouldn't have--u-ME the worstest from now on....I swear.....!!
6sally6
YEAH.....near 100 heat index !!!!!!!!!!OF COURSE....

Re: WELP...........I continue to do it !!!!!!!

You know, if you change the anti-freeze every now and then, you radiator won’t get clogged with red dirt.

Put your HF laser thermometer on the radiator top, bottom and center to see if it is doing anything.

Maybe the water pump got stuck in the mud and spun the impeller on the shaft, or broke it off.

Is it spewing water and actually getting hot?   Maybe the sender is grounding out?

Otherwise, I would suspect the emblems are not the right ones to be on a fully functional vehicle.

Re: WELP...........I continue to do it !!!!!!!

Chevy's revenge for putting it second behind the Mustang. Or maybe having a mixed fleet isn't a good idea? (says the guy who still has his 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee, which is my spare tire and my hunting rig). My 2017 Explorer Sport pavement princess is a long ways from seeing any offroad action. My suggestion for your overheat problem is to jack up the radiator cap, and drive a Ford underneath it. :-)

Re: WELP...........I continue to do it !!!!!!!

I'm guessing it had Dexcool in it.  I think that stuff was part of GM's plan to keep you coming back for service.  I remember my neighbor flushing dozens of vehicles that had it and switching them back to good old green antifreeze.  In fairness, the GO5 Ford decided to use in the Powerstrokes wasn't any better and the engines were A LOT more expensive to fix.  I got rid of that stuff and run a CAT EC-1 rated ELC now.

Re: WELP...........I continue to do it !!!!!!!

I agree with MS, check the radiator, it could be blocked up in an area that can’t be solved with flushing.
I had this issue with a daily driver I had bought years ago.  The previous owner apparently hadn’t performed any routine maintenance.  Even after repeated flushing with a commercial flush it would get very hot.  Took the radiator to get it boiled out, and ended up with a new radiator because it was so clogged no amount of flushing was going to help.

Re: WELP...........I continue to do it !!!!!!!

Sounds like you need to get a Ford truck. 😁

Radiator cap, thermostat, and radiator….KISS principal.

Have you been loosing coolant?
Bubbles in radiator?
Loosing your patience?

Is that an EFI engine?
Perhaps a sensor is bad causing the air fuel ratio to be lean and overheat.

I had a 98 Tahoe with a bad coolant temp sensor.
The ECM thought it was -40F in 80 degree weather in August.
Ran pig rich and spewed black smoke.
Replaced sensor and all was fine.

If multiple things can go wrong, the one that will go wrong will be the one that causes the most damage.
