Fuel Pressure regulator gots the "squirts"....

Hey LT, TKO, Coupe, 5.0 Vert, Glens 65 5.0, or any other EEC IV EFI guys.  I was checking fuel pressure on the Heap with  the vac line to the regulator disconnected and running the pump through the Self-Test connector.  I noticed that when ever I started the pump the regulator would pop just a tiny bit of fuel out of the vacuum port.  It's a Holly adjustable regulator and I was checking 'cause I though it might be set a bit high for hot starts...wanted to long crank occasionally when hot.
Is this spitting from the vac port normal, acceptable, or really, really bad.  I hate having to pull that upper intake just to change the FPR.
Thanks guys.

Re: Fuel Pressure regulator gots the "squirts"....

Thanks for heads up.

I am using a stock Foxbody fuel rail and regulator.

Not normal. You can get rebuild kits for them depending on the model.

Butt .... I've no experience with adjustable regulaters on efi.

See ya soon!

Definitely not normal, as you would be introducing unmetered fuel into the intake via the vacuum port connected to the regulator.  I would rebuild it and check it again.  Examine the insides very thoroughly to make sure nothing is corroded or damaged.  If it sat for any length of time with ethanol containing fuel in it who knows what's happened to it.

Re: Fuel Pressure regulator gots the "squirts"....

Thanks Barry and Tom.  I was pretty sure that was a bad sign...replaced it with a stock one from the "shelf".  This was no a real fancy unit.  Looked just like a stock regulator only the vacuum stem was like a hollow screw for adjustment. And yes, it had been setting for a while after being used so I was thinking like you, Tom, crappy fuel,  It's a non-rebuildable item so I'm gonna open it up with my little cut-off wheel and see what makes it tick.
Incidently, the old Ford unit I replaced the Holly with works perfect.  With 16" of vac it holds 32-33 lbs and with zero vac it allows 42 lbs or slightly more.  And...it ain't got's the "squirts"!

See YOU soon, Barry, can't wait.  And Tom, well I hope you make it to a Bash while I'm still able to attend.  Butt (TS&T), don't wait too long.
