I ordered a Third member from Quick Performance on 7/7/2023

said allow up to 8 weeks for build it should coming soon. I ordered it with Eaton Truetrac with 3.55.1 gear.A quality, petroleum-mineral based, GL5 rated 80w-90 gear oil should be used. Synthetic oils are not recommended for Truetrac applications. I also read no friction additive to be use with Truetrac. What brand do you guys use and how many quarts will I need after I clean all the other out and fill it back up? Just trying to get all the stuff up so I will have it on han when it gets here. I odered new longer bolts cause of the  Truetrac requiring a little longer and new copper washers. Should be a good change for my 8 inch open diff with 3.00.1 gear in it now .It does have Mustangsteve Disc Brakes on the back though.

From the Ford Service Manual, the 8" rear takes 4.5 pints.
I used Valvoline 80w-90, GL-4 & 5, gear oil as that what was on the shelf at the local auto parts store, non-synthetic.

65 Fastback, 351W, 5-speed, 4 wheel discs, 9" rear,  R&C Front End.

Re: I ordered a Third member from Quick Performance on 7/7/2023

No friction modifier needed with the TrueTrac.  I have one in my '06 F250.  As your rear was made for conventional oil I would probably just use that.  The Valvoline BobE specs is what I get at the local NAPA for anything that uses conventional.  I can tell you that you can use synthetic with a TrueTrac and it works just fine.  The 10.5" Sterling in my '06 F250 uses 75W140 oil, which is only available in synthetic.  Per the TrueTrac manual it is advised to use the oil specified by the rear end manufacturer, regardless of whether or not its synthetic or conventional.  I've noticed no issues in use.  The TreuTrac is there when I need it and invisible when I don't.  Its the best limited slip rear I've ever used thus far.  AND, I don't have to worry about wearing out clutch plates behind 900+ lbs/ft. of torque.
