I have no use for these, but came across them in another search I was doing so I thought I'd pass it along to my FYI brothers.
These are only like $140 on Summit now, but I've heard of some people having issues with the newer ones. My guess is Ford switched suppliers and the newer ones are made overseas from questionable materials.

Bought my set in 2010. Broke a wheel off one in 2017.. currently running a set purchased in 2017.
Fingers crossed
In my 331 in the 69, I bought Summit brand lifters. Has about 1,500 miles on it. Nothing wrong yet.
You can buy a set of new roller lifters for about $80. I am betting there are not that many different companies making them.

On a side note I did find out exactly how much a difference between roller and non roller blocks are in the lifter area.
Ford added exactly 5/16 of an inch of meat to the top of the lifter bore.

And two cast-in bosses for threaded 1/4" holes in the center of the lifter valley.

By my count there are three. Some years back I bought a bunch of different sets of roller lifters for my 331 because I kept getting ones which were damaged, ones where the box exploded in shipping, etc. Most ended up being the same lifter sold in a different box. You pay a premium for the most recognizable name on the box.
REMEMBER!!! When posting a question about your Mustang or other Ford on this forum, BE SURE to tell us what it is, what year, engine, etc so we have enough information to go on. |
