Billy! Do you have a shop manual for your car. All of that info is in it.

When I was a kid growing up I don't know how many times my parents said look it up when I asked a question. It's proven that you remember something more when you read it and see the words. So...

Re: How much gear oil in 65 8 inch rear after third member swap?

This is exactly why some questions don't get asked on here...you know every question people ask could be answered by someone saying look it up ...I know how to look it up but for some reason I like hearing what the members here have to say and as long as we have members willing to just answer a question I will ask. This is why the page is got less traffic than it use too lately. I had a few message me and let me know they used 2.5 to 3 quarts ..I guess any question you could ever ask could be looked up so why ask anymore?

I would prepare for it to take 3 quarts.  Make sure you are on level ground, pull the fill plug and squeeze until oil runs out.

The Ford 1966 Mustang Service Manual I have indicates 5 pints for an 8" rear, and 4.5 pints for a 9" rear.
This does not include any fiction modifier that may be necessary if equipped with a locking differential.

Like TKO says...pour it in 'til it runs out faster than you can pour it in.

yeah I put some in before in another car but wasnt sure how much it would take. But a gallon jug of it was cheaper than 3 one quart containers....I have one of those pumps and had put a drain in housing when I  had the Mustangsteve rear disc brakes installed.
