67 mustang 390 spark problems

Hey all,

I am working on a 67 mustang...390 engine...the car would cut out at moderate rpm so the mechanic looking at it yesterday took a few plugs out and while turning the car over noticed they would spark ok, then not spark at all and then have a weak spark all within the same turn of the key. The car has a points distributor which is a new rebuilt, new cap, points, wires and coil....he is very perplexed...any thoughts?

Re: 67 mustang 390 spark problems

Almost sounds like a bad ignition switch or ignition wire.  If you are testing your spark while cranking, then your ignition is fired from the solenoid.  The wire from the solenoid or the contactor inside the solenoid may be faulty causing your inconsistent spark.
