The door tag is missing on my 65 vert and I am looking at ordering one from Marti. I can figure out most of the information except for the build date.
The car is a San Jose car. The VIN is 5R08A162910. Does anyone on this board have access to a Mustang Production Guide that could tell me by the consecutive assembly line number (162910) what my build date might be?
TIA.

There are some guys on facebook that have that stuff figured out pretty good.

If you still have original body panels, there are date stamps on sheetmetal… might be helpful.
Keep in mind, some are stamped from the back side.
The part was stamped then welded together.
Door panels, heater and a/c blower motors, hoods, doors, trunk lid, instrument panel, and radio will have date stamps too.

Have you tried In Search of Mustangs-
I believe you have to register to view the information.Offline
Both 5R09C162843 and 5R07C162945 has a date code of 30L, 30 November 1964.
Your car is actually listed on ISOmustangs as a vintage burgandy convertible.

I found that site a while back and registered with what I knew at the time. Given the line numbers of the two cars you listed, it is almost certain that my car was made on November 30 1964. I wonder how many Mustang were made per day at the San Jose plant?
Thanks Barry for posting that link!

The date on the door tag is the proposed build date, estimated at the time the order was entered. The actual build date may have been earlier or later than the proposed build date. If you have a '67 or later the Marti Report will tell you the exact build date but Ford destroyed the production records for everything through '66 before Kevin Marti arrived on the scene.

I would call it Nov 30. Certainly no evidence exists to tell otherwise.
My 65 is August 12

I'm pretty sure my car is a 64 65 66 Mustang like the Man in Black said in his song, because I think nothing that is removable left the factory actually bolted to this tub. So I've go a lot of build dates!

Just ordered a replacement door tag from Marti. With a Nov 30 build date.

REMEMBER!!! When posting a question about your Mustang or other Ford on this forum, BE SURE to tell us what it is, what year, engine, etc so we have enough information to go on. |
