Yeah, I made that "overuse" mistake when I first used RTV years old, just a little thin layer works. 
I remember using Permatex 1 &2 with my father before RTV was available ... now that was a mess to clean up!

My dad always had Indian Shellac in the shed.
I remember he used it on heavy construction equipment at work.
That’s like cement when dry…better hope it’s never coming apart.

Permatex #2…ahhhh the memories…works great, sparingly.

RTV is slippery, however the Ultra Gray is like a mix of RTV and Permatex #2.

Me thinks y'all are overthinking this project. What have we used on carbs for a hunert years? A simple gasket. And if you apply just a bit a grease to either side of the gasket it'll never stick to the surface and be reusable.

I am going to use the gasket between the mid plate and the 5.8 lower but the mid plate to upper is not something I will likely ever take apart.  Also the large size of the plenum requires the gasket to be thin on the outside edges, basically I would need to cut away most of a stock gasket to make it work.  At that point I think I would rather not use the gasket, especially since it adds more height.

PAM cooking spray.  Old trick we used to use before the reusable gaskets came out for Holley carbs.  Also works great on the underside of 4x4s to allow mud to wash right off after 4 wheelin'.
