Re: HELP

I got my torque boxes from CJ pony. They had the better price, but I had to wait ah while for them. When you get your new boxes they'll be in one peice. I found it best to split them apart and fit and weld them in separately. This of corse is if your not replacing your toe boards. If you are then you mite be able to get them in in one peice.

There are now torque boxes available that come pre-welded so you do not have to cut them apart before installation.

Money you enjoy wasting is NOT wasted money... unless your wife finds out.

Re: HELP

The Dynacorn torque boxes come as separate pieces.  I cut one of the welded ones apart and it didn't come close to fitting - I guess I could have spent hours bending and twisting but I don't have the time.  The Dynacorn pieces slid in like they were actually made to fit.  I threw out the first pair of the welded pieces I bought.

The complete inner rocker replacement can't easiliy be talked through - it is an extensive effort.  I did lots of google searches and found several excellent blogs where people went through every step.  I removed both sides and in hindsight, I would have done one side at a time to keep things from twisting.  I got the generic inner rockers from one of the major on-line places.  The left one was straight, the right one was twisted by about 1/2" end to end and the entire car distorted when I attempted to clamp it in before seeing the error.  They replaced it and the ease that they replaced it without requiring me to return the original tells me that this is not uncommon.  If you don't find any good links, send me a PM or post again and I'll send you some of the the links I found.  In the street or track link they show the inner rockers being cut at the rear torque boxes.  This is a key area for strength and I don't know that I would recommend that shortcut.  I cut out the top of the rear torque boxes and pulled the entire inner rocker out and replaced it end to end.  I also threw out the garbage generic rear torque box tops/covers that I bought and used Dynacorn.  Again, the fit perfectly.  I have a pile of useless sheet metal accumulating.

I would strongly recommend a rotisserie for this job as getting to everything with the car sitting upright is difficult.  I got mine apart on jack stands but am not a good enough welder to work upside down and sideways to put it back together.  The rotisserie allows me to work well with my limited welding skills.

Be prepared to replace sections of the floors front to back.  If the inner rockers are rusted, the floor area below them is also gone.

Let me know if you need any pics, etc.
