TKO600 - Throw Out Bearing Pre Load Problem

Hi All - I've got a 67 Mustang Fastback with a 351 Windsor and TKO600 5 speed with a King Cobra Clutch Kit.
The problem is that I have to pre load the throw out bearing in order to shift properly. It doesn't matter what adjustment I make at the fork cable nut or firewall on the cable. If I try to adjust it so the throw out bearing is just touching the fingers or barely touching, it won't shift. Pre loading is the only way...
I've been thinking about cutting the pedal stop from the stock clutch pedal and fabricating a custom pedal stop in order to get more height out of the clutch pedal for added throw that could do the trick, or just purchasing Mustang Steve's 67 Pedal Kit. Thoughts?

Re: TKO600 - Throw Out Bearing Pre Load Problem

The throwout bearing is designed to be preloaded and does spin all the time.  The diaphragm type King Cobra clutch is also designed to have preload.
The cable clutch setup is designed with all that in mind and duplicated the foxbody cable clutch that also requires a preload on the bearing. You must use the correct throwout bearing.  From my experience, don’t waste your effort installing anything but a Ford bearing. Others do not last long.

Ford’s design.  Not mine.

Money you enjoy wasting is NOT wasted money... unless your wife finds out.
